Leikanger, Selje
Leikanger is a village in Stad Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located along the Vanylvsfjorden on the eastern coast of the Stadlandet peninsula, about southeast of the village of Ervik and the same distance north of the village of Selje. Leikanger Church is located in the village. There is some industry in the village as well as some small farming and fishing. The village has a population (2018) of 408 and a population density of . Vestland
Vestland is a county in Norway established on 1 January 2020. The county is located in Western Norway and it is centred around the city of Bergen, Norway's second largest city. The administrative centre of the county is the city of Bergen, where the executive and political leadership is based, but the County Governor is based in Hermansverk. The county is one of two counties in Norway that have Nynorsk as their official written language form (the others are neutral as to which form people use). Vestland was created in 2020 when the former counties of Hordaland and Sogn og Fjordane (with the exception of Hornindal municipality, which became part of Volda municipality in Møre og Romsdal county) were merged. Vanylvsfjorden
Vanylvsfjorden is a fjord in western Norway, on the border of Vestland and Møre og Romsdal counties. The long fjord runs between the mainland of Vanylven Municipality and the Stad peninsula of Stad Municipality, with the islands of Sande Municipality lying in the mouth of the fjord. The inner part of the fjord branches into the Syltefjorden and Kjødepollen. The deepest part of the fjord reaches about below sea level, just northeast of the village of Borgundvåg. There are settlements all around the shoreline of the fjord and on some of the islands at the mouth of the fjord. Olav Tryggvason
Olaf Tryggvason (960s – 9 September 1000) was King of Norway from 995 to 1000. He was the son of Tryggvi Olafsson, king of Viken (Vingulmark, and Rånrike), and, according to later sagas, the great-grandson of Harald Fairhair, first King of Norway. He is numbered as Olaf I. Olaf is seen as an important factor in the conversion of the Norse to Christianity. He is said to have built the first Christian church in Norway, in 995, and to have founded the city of Trondheim in 997. A statue of Olaf Tryggvason is located in the city's central plaza. Stad or Stadlandet is a peninsula in Stad Municipality in the northwestern part of the Nordfjord district in Vestland county in Norway. The peninsula is considered the dividing point between the Norwegian Sea to the north and the North Sea to the south. The name is sometimes also written as ''Stadt'', ''Statt'', or ''Statlandet'' (not to be confused with the similar German word '' Stadt''), because the Norwegian pronunciation of the ''d'' in this case is as a ''t''. Leikanger Church (Selje)
Leikanger Church ( no, Leikanger kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Stad Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Leikanger on the shore of the Vanylvsfjorden. It is the church for the Leikanger parish which is part of the Nordfjord prosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1866 using plans drawn up by an unknown architect. The church seats about 370 people. History In 1866, plans were made for building a new Selje Church in the village of Selje. To make room for the new, larger church building, the old church was torn down. The materials for the old church were saved and moved to the nearby village of Leikanger on the shore of the Vanylvsfjorden, about north of the village of Selje. Ervik, Sogn Og Fjordane
Ervik is a village in Stad Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located on the northwestern tip of the Stadlandet peninsula, about northwest of the village of Selje, and about northwest of the village of Leikanger. The village sits at the southern base of the mountain plateau, ''Kjerringa'' which forms a cliff that plunges almost vertically into the ocean at the northwestern end of the peninsula.
