Leif Husebye
Leif Husebye (29 April 1926 – 9 August 2009) was a Norwegian sailor, sports journalist and newspaper editor. In his younger days he was an active sport sailor. He competed in the snipe class, and a bronze medal in the European Championships and a sixth place in the World Championships were his foremost results. He was a reserve for the Norwegian Olympic team of 1952. His career in journalism started when he was hired in ''Morgenposten'' as a temp in 1946, by sports editor and former runner Hjalmar Johannessen. He eventually became sports editor himself. In November 1969 he was promoted to editor-in-chief. Industrialist Sverre Munck owned the newspaper at the time, but died in 1970. The newspaper, which had been among Norway's largest, went defunct in 1971. Sport Sailing
The sport of sailing involves a variety of competitive sailing formats that are sanctioned through various sailing federations and yacht clubs. Racing disciplines include matches within a fleet of sailing craft, between a pair thereof or among teams. Additionally, there are specialized competitions that include setting speed records. Racing formats include both closed courses and point-to-point contests; they may be in sheltered waters, coast-wise or on the open ocean. Snipe (dinghy)
The Snipe is an American sailing dinghy that was designed by William F. Crosby as a one design racer and first built in 1931. The boat is a World Sailing recognized international class. Sailboatdata.com summarizes the design as "one of the most popular sailing dinghies ever. (In its heyday, the largest sailboat racing class). Origins in the US. Built, sailed and raced around the world to this day." Production In the past the design has built by Grampian Marine in Canada; Eichenlaub Boat Co., Jack A. 1952 Summer Olympics
The 1952 Summer Olympics ( fi, Kesäolympialaiset 1952; sv, Olympiska sommarspelen 1952), officially known as the Games of the XV Olympiad ( fi, XV olympiadin kisat; sv, Den XV olympiadens spel) and commonly known as Helsinki 1952 ( sv, Helsingfors 1952), were an international multi-sport event held from 19 July to 3 August 1952 in Helsinki, Finland. After Japan declared in 1938 that it would be unable to host 1940 Olympics in Tokyo due to the ongoing Second Sino-Japanese War, Helsinki had been selected to host the 1940 Summer Olympics, which were then cancelled due to World War II. Tokyo eventually hosted the games in 1964. Helsinki is the northernmost city at which a summer Olympic Games have been held. ''Morgenposten'' is a former Norwegian newspaper, issued in Oslo from 1861 to 1971. It was the largest newspaper in Norway from the 1870s until the early 1900s, when its name was ''Christiania Nyheds- og Avertissements-Blad'', also nicknamed ''Sværta''. Hjalmar Johannessen
Hjalmar "Hjalle" Johannessen (24 May 1907 – 19 August 1959) was a Norwegian athlete who specialized in the 400 and 800 metres, and later a sports writer. He was born in Trondheim, and as an athlete he represented the local club SK Freidig; later Oslo TF. Competition record He became Norwegian 400 metres champion in 1928, 1929, 1930, 1931 and 1935, and 800 metres champion in 1928, 1929, 1931, 1933, 1936 and 1937. His personal best time was 1:52.1 minutes, achieved in September 1935 in Stockholm. In the 400 metres he had 48.6 seconds, achieved in September 1935 at Bislett stadion. Sverre Munck
Sverre Munthe-Kaas Munck (5 July 1898 – 26 January 1970) was a Norwegian businessperson. Early life and career He was born in Høvik as the son of dean Oskar Albert Munck (1868–1956) and Mathilde Munthe-Kaas (1871–1906). He was also a great-grandson of Johan Storm Munch. He grew up in Øygarden, took his examen artium at Frogner School in 1916 and a degree in electrical engineering at the Norwegian Institute of Technology in 1921. In October 1925 he married Elisa Margrethe "Lisken" Anthonisen. Their son Oskar A. Munck became best known among their children. In 1924 he founded his own company, which came to be known as Sverre Munck Elektro-Mekanisk Industri. After a time of struggle, the company profited from the upward economic cycles of the late 1930s and the post-World War II period. Sandvika
Sandvika () is the administrative centre of the municipality of Bærum in Norway. It was declared a List of cities in Norway, city by the municipal council (Norway), municipal council in Bærum on 4 June 2003. Sandvika is situated approximately west of Oslo.
