Leicester Mercury Comedian Of The Year
The ''Leicester Mercury'' Comedian of the Year is held during the Leicester Comedy Festival every February. All the finalists picked are nominated by the UK's top comedy clubs and must meet certain criteria. The competition is sponsored by the ''Leicester Mercury'', a local newspaper, and Equity, the actors union. Leicester Comedy Festival
The Leicester Comedy Festival is an annual comedy festival held in a number of venues across Leicester, England early in the year. History The festival started in 1994 with 40 events in 23 venues over 7 days throughout Leicestershire, attracting 5,000 people. The festival now attracts over 60,000 people from all over the world and is seen as one of the 'Top 5 comedy festivals in the world' (The Guardian) Since then many top stand-up comedians have performed in the festival including Jo Brand, Jack Dee, Dave Gorman, Rory Bremner, Simon Pegg, Alan Davies, Bill Bailey, The Mighty Boosh, Johnny Vegas, Rich Hall, Jimmy Carr, Dara Ó Briain, Russell Howard, Dave Spikey, Harry Hill, Greg Davies, Sarah Millican and Romesh Ranganathan. Marek Larwood
Marek Ryan Larwood (born 2 June 1976) is an English comedian and actor. He is best known for the BBC Three sketch show ''Rush Hour'' and for being one third of the comedy trio ''We Are Klang''. Early life Born in Norwich, Norfolk, Larwood lived in Wales before moving to the Isle of Wight. His forename is of Polish origin, as his mother had seen a 1975 documentary about a Polish schoolboy with a heart defect, who was looking forward to an operation. The operation was unsuccessful, and Marek's mother thought to name her son after the Polish schoolboy. Career Stand-up comedy Larwood won the Laughing Horse New Act of The Year competition in 2003. Chris Ramsey (comedian)
Christopher Ramsey (born 3 August 1986) is an English actor, comedian and presenter. After appearing in ''Hebburn'' as Jack (2012–2013), Ramsey began presenting series including '' I'm A Celebrity: Extra Camp'' (2016), '' Virtually Famous'' (2016–2017) and '' Stand Up Central'' (2017). Seann Walsh
Sean Christopher Walsh (born 2 December 1985), known professionally as Seann Walsh, is an English stand-up comedian. Early life Walsh was born in Camden in London, but was brought up in Brighton. He left school with one GCSE examination pass, in Drama. Career Walsh is a graduate of Jill Edwards' comedy workshops and performed his first gig in November 2006. He won several awards early in his career including ''Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year (2009)'' and ''Chortle Best Newcomer (2009)''. Walsh supported Stephen K. Gareth Richards (18 August 1979 – 7 April 2023) was a British comedian and radio presenter. Career Richards was co-host of The Frank Skinner Show on Absolute Radio. James Branch (comedian)
James Branch (27 February 1845 – 16 November 1918), was a British boot manufacturer and Liberal politician. Branch was born in Bethnal Green in the East End of London, where he established a boot factory. An active member of the Liberal Party, he was president of the Bethnal Green Liberal Association for twenty years. In 1889 he was elected to the first London County Council as a member of the Liberal-backed Progressive Party representing Bethnal Green South West until 1907. He was a justice of the peace for the County of London, and well known for his philanthropic work in the East End and as a prominent member of the Congregational Church.
