Legia Warsaw (ice Hockey)
Legia Warsaw ( pl, Legia Warszawa) was an ice hockey team in Warsaw, Poland. Formerly a top-level team in the country, they most recently played in the second-level of Polish hockey, the Polish 1. Liga. The club was founded in 1927. They won fourteen Polska Liga Hokejowa titles from 1933 to 1967. Between 1982 and 2005, the club was liquidated, and returned to I liga I liga ( pl, Pierwsza liga, ), currently named Fortuna I liga due to its sponsorship by Fortuna, is the men's second professional association football division of the Polish football league system, below the Ekstraklasa and above the II liga vi ... in 2006. The team has remained in the second-level. The team did not participate in the 2015/16 season, and has temporarily suspended operations due to financial constraints. Polska Liga Hokejowa
The Polska Hokej Liga is the premier ice hockey league in Poland. Previously, it was known as the I Liga or Ekstraklasa from 1926 to 1999, and the Polska Liga Hokejowa from 1999 to 2013. In 2013, it was reorganized as a limited liability company and renamed the Polska Hokej Liga. It follows a system of relegation to and promotion to/from the Polish 1. Liga. History The championship started in 1925-26. At first, it was a non-league system composed of regional tournaments. The tournaments had two stages. The best teams qualified to the final tournament, of which the winner was declared champion. In 1938, the Polish Ice Hockey Federation decided to reorganize the championship, by creating a league system. Those plans were abandoned due to the outbreak of World War II.
