Leandro Fernández (historian)
Leandro Heriberto Caballero Fernandez, also known as Leandro H. Fernandez, (March 13, 1889 – 1948) was a Filipino people, Filipino historian who will serve as forerunner for later historians in the ranks of Teodoro Agoncillo and Gregorio F. Zaide. He is well known for being the first Filipino chairperson of the University of the Philippines Department of History. Notable among his works is ''A Brief History of the Philippines'', a textbook for Grade 7 students during the History of the Philippines (1898–1946), American period. Early life Fernandez was born on March 13, 1889, at Pagsanjan, Laguna. He studied first at Pagsawitan Elementary School, then at Laguna Provincial High School. Tomas Fonacier
Tomas Saguitan Fonacier (December 25, 1898 – July 5, 1981) was a Filipino historian and educator. He is known for being the second Filipino chairperson of the University of the Philippines Department of History, and the first dean of the University of the Philippines Iloilo (now part of University of the Philippines Visayas), which he helped found. Notable among his academic works is research on Chinese history and Ilocano history in the Philippines. According to the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, Fonacier's public service at the university, which spanned more than six decades, is the longest on record in that country. Austin Craig
Austin C. Craig (February 22, 1872 – February 11, 1949) was an American historian born in Eddyton, New York. Being one of the first biographers of the Philippine national hero, José Rizal, a street was named after him in Sampaloc, Manila. He was educated at Cornell University, University of Rochester, and the Pacific University. He arrived in Manila on July 25, 1904, as a teacher under the Bureau of Education, taking up positions in Lubang Island; Calapan, Mindoro; and finally in Manila at the Philippine School of Arts and Trades, the Philippine Normal School, Manila High School, the University of the Philippines, and the University of Manila (1922-1927). In 1910, he became the first Chair of the Department of History of the University of the Philippines. He was the holder of the Rizal professorial chair at the University of the Philippines in Padre Faura from 1912 to 1922.
