Leading Edge Brands is a soft drink marketing and manufacturing company based in Temple, Texas. Leading Edge Brands (LEB) is part of the McLane Group, which is headed by Drayton McLane, Jr., (also CEO of Major League Baseball's Houston Astros). LEB's CEO is Webb Stickney, and its products are distributed in the United States, the Caribbean, Mexico and the South Pacific. Leading Edge Brands was founded in 1997 when the Kist and Flavette soda brands were purchased from the Monarch Beverage Company. The Frostie Root Beer brand was purchased from Monarch in 2000 and sold in 2009. The company had sales of $36.8 million in 2006. In 2009, Interstate Distributors in Detroit, Michigan purchase the Frostie and Kist brands. Frostie Root Beer is an American brand of root beer that was originally produced in 1939 by The Frostie Beverage Company of Catonsville, Maryland, owned by George Rackensperger. In 1971, Frostie Enterprises, as the parent company was known, purchased a competing rootbeer brand and drive-in chain, Stewart's Restaurants (sold in 1979). Another expansion happened in 1974, when Frostie Enterprises purchased the Dog n Suds Root Beer Drive-in and brand. Citrus Products Company was an independent beverage company known for production of the Orange soft drink Kist, as well as a line of ice cream products. It was formed in 1919. By 1923, the Beverage Journal reported on how the company had "substantially emphasized" new sales methods, bringing national attention to the company. Products Kist Kist distribution began in 1919. It was one of the earliest orange sodas marketed to consumers, beat to market only by fellow Chicago-based competitor Crush.
