Lea Márquez Peterson
Lea Marquez Peterson is an American politician who has been on the Arizona Corporation Commission since 2019. Peterson was appointed by Governor Doug Ducey to replace Andy Tobin following his appointment as director of the Arizona Department of Administration. She won statewide reelection to the Commission in 2020 and in 2024, and served as the Chairwoman of the Commission from 2020 to 2022. Peterson was also the 2018 Republican nominee for Arizona's 2nd Congressional District in the U.S. House. Peterson received her undergraduate degrees in marketing and entrepreneurship from the University of Arizona, and her MBA from Pepperdine University. From 2009 to 2018, Peterson was CEO of the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Peterson is the first Hispanic woman to hold statewide office in Arizona. Arizona Corporation Commission
The Arizona Corporation Commission is the Public Utilities Commission of the Arizona, State of Arizona, established by Article 15 of the Constitution of Arizona, Arizona Constitution. Arizona is one of only fourteen states with elected commissioners. The Arizona Constitution explicitly calls for an elected commission, as opposed to a governor-appointed commission, which is the standard in most states, because its drafters feared that governors would appoint industry-friendly officials. They are directly elected statewide and serve staggered four-year terms. Due to its separation from the executive branch, the commission is often referred to as the "fourth branch of government." Before entering politics, O'Connor worked for 42 years in the securities industry, owning his own firm, Nexus Financial Services. Mundell is an American politician who served as a member of the Arizona Corporation Commission from 1999 until 2009 and in the Arizona House of Representatives from 1986 to 1992 as a Republican. He formerly was a member of the Arizona Corporation Commission and also served in the Arizona House of Representatives from the state's 1st district, and as former Speaker, beginning in 2011.
