Webcomics In France
Webcomics in France are usually referred to as either blog BD (comic strip blogs) or BD numérique (digital comic strips). Early webcomics in the late 1990s and early 2000s primarily took on the form of personal blogs, where amateur artists told stories through their drawings. The medium rose in popularity in economic viability in the country in the late 2000s and early 2010s. The Turbomedia format, where a webcomic is presented more alike a slideshow, was popularized in France in the early 2010s. History The distribution of digital comics (BD numérique) in France dates back to 1997, when "interactive comics", a hybrid of video games and animation, were circulated on CD-ROMs. Comic blogs (blog BD) started to appear on the World Wide Web as it gained traction in the late 1990s and early 2000s, generally offering strips and short stories. French webcomics were primarily published on personal blogs, as artists tell stories of their daily lives by putting them in images. For a long ...

Pen Name
A pen name, also called a ''nom de plume'' or a literary double, is a pseudonym (or, in some cases, a variant form of a real name) adopted by an author and printed on the title page or by-line of their works in place of their real name. A pen name may be used to make the author's name more distinctive, to disguise the author's gender, to distance the author from their other works, to protect the author from retribution for their writings, to merge multiple persons into a single identifiable author, or for any of a number of reasons related to the marketing or aesthetic presentation of the work. The author's real identity may be known only to the publisher or may become common knowledge. Etymology The French-language phrase is occasionally still seen as a synonym for the English term "pen name", which is a "back-translation" and originated in England rather than France. H. W. Fowler and F. G. Fowler, in ''The King's English'' state that the term ''nom de plume'' evolv ...

Lewis Trondheim
Lewis Trondheim (born Laurent Chabosy, , on 11 December 1964), is a French cartoonist and one of the founders (in 1990) of the independent publisher L'Association. Both his silent comic ''La Mouche'' and Kaput and Zösky have been made into animated cartoons. He explained his choice of pseudonym after the Norwegian city of Trondheim as follows: "As a last name I wanted to use a city's name, but Lewis Bordeaux or Lewis Toulouse didn't sound so good. Then I thought about this city, Trondheim… Maybe someday I will publish a book under my real name, in order to remain anonymous." Biography Lewis Trondheim was first known as the author of ''Les formidables aventures de Lapinot'' (later to be translated to English as '' The Spiffy Adventures of McConey''). He invented the character in the late 1980s as a way to learn cartooning. The result was an initial 500 page graphic novel, ''Lapinot et les carottes de Patagonie''. The Comics Journal
''The Comics Journal'', often abbreviated ''TCJ'', is an American magazine of news and criticism pertaining to comic books, comic strips and graphic novels. Known for its lengthy interviews with comic creators, pointed editorials and scathing reviews of the products of the mainstream comics industry, the magazine promotes the view that comics are a fine art, meriting broader cultural respect, and thus should be evaluated with higher critical standards. History In 1976, Gary Groth and Michael Catron acquired ''The Nostalgia Journal'', a small competitor of the newspaper adzine '' The Buyer's Guide for Comics Fandom''. At the time, Groth and Catron were already publishing ''Sounds Fine'', a similarly formatted adzine for record collectors that they had started after producing Rock 'N Roll Expo '75, held during the July 4 weekend in 1975 in Washington, D.C. Telerama
Telerama was an Internet service provider and technology company based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was founded in 1991 and promoted itself as the third ISP in world history. Telerama launched its Wi-Fi network in Pittsburgh in 2001, comprising over 200 nodes. It concentrated access mainly in "coffee-house" style arrangements. In 2003, Telerama's Wi-Fi network started appearing at sites in the Cultural District, Pittsburgh. In 2004 it started lighting up large buildings in downtown Pittsburgh. Telerama's stated approach to municipal Wi-Fi access was somewhat unusual. Eschewing the typical Mu-Fi concept of blanketing every square inch of a town area with signal, Telerama instead concentrated on specific locations like coffee houses and apartments. Locations were usually serviced by a high-speed DSL line a Linux Linux ( or ) is a family of open-source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on Septembe ...

Webcomics In Print
Though webcomics are typically published primarily on the World Wide Web, some webcartoonists may get publishing deals in which comic books are created of their work. Sometimes, these books are published by mainstream comics publishers who are traditionally aimed at the direct market of regional comic books. Some webcartoonists may pursue print syndication in established newspapers or magazines. In other cases, webcomic creators decide to self-publish their work. Crowdfunding through Kickstarter is often used in order to fund such projects. Publication of webcomics Though mainstream comic book publishers have typically been wary of licensing webcomics and adapting them into a print format, the rise of webcomics in the 2000s coincided with an American boom in graphic novels. Anna Baddeley, writing for ''The Guardian'', stated that the established fanbase many webcomics have could give publishers a chance to attract new audiences to the print format, making webcomics an attractive ...
