Lawn Bowls At The 2022 Commonwealth Games
Lawn bowls was among the sports contested at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, to be held in England. This was the twenty-first staging of lawn bowls at the Commonwealth Games having featured in every Games bar 1966, and the third staging within England specifically. The competition was scheduled to take place between 29 July and 6 August 2022, spread across eleven events (including three parasport events). Schedule The competition schedule was as follows: Venue The lawn bowls competition will be held at the Victoria Park bowling greens in Leamington Spa. Qualification (parasport) A total of 36 parasport bowlers (18 pairs) nominally qualify to compete at the Games. Victoria Park, Leamington Spa
Victoria Park is a public park in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, England. It is situated about half a mile (800 m) west of the town centre and is on the south bank of the River Leam. The total area of the park as it stands today is . History & Features Up until the 1830s the park was just part of farmland on the edge of the growing spa town. It was at that time that one of the local land owning families, the Willes, began to hold archery competitions on the land. In the middle of the nineteenth century Leamington Cricket club made their first home there and in the 1860s the New Riverside Walk was opened. The park was extensively landscaped and redesigned in 1899 to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria. Before the Royal Show moved to Stoneleigh Park one of its venues was Victoria Park. Alex Marshall (bowls)
Alex "Tattie" Marshall (born 8 February 1967) is record breaking Scottish bowls player. Marshall plays at Gifford Bowls Club (outdoor) and East Lothian Indoor Bowling Club. Marshall began bowling at the age of eight supported by both his father and grandfather and first represented his country in 1988. He is a record breaking six-time World Indoor Singles Champion. He has eight World Indoor Pairs titles to his credit (six Open Pairs and two Mixed Pairs). Marshall has won seven World Outdoor Championship Gold medals (Pairs in 1992, 2000 and 2012, Fours in 1992, and Team in 1992, 1996 and 2004). Paul James Foster (born 13 March 1973) is a multiple world bowls champion who lives in Troon, Scotland. He plays at Troon Portland (Outdoor) & Ambassador Prestwick (Indoor) bowling clubs. Bowling career Indoor career Foster is the second most prolific winner of the World Indoor Championship singles title, behind six-times winner, pairs partner and close friend Alex Marshall. He has five wins from seven final appearances (in 1998, 2001, 2005, 2011 and 2017), with his two defeats coming in the 2013 final to Stewart Anderson and in the 2022 final to Les Gillett. Sam Tolchard (born 27 May 1989) is an English international lawn and indoor bowler. Profile In 2009, he won the singles and triples silver medals at the Atlantic Bowls Championships and the following year in 2010, he won the Hong Kong International Bowls Classic pairs title with Robert Newman. Jarrad Breen (born 6 October 1992) is a Welsh international lawn and indoor bowler. Early life and family Breen was born on 6 October 1992 and attended Tonyrefail Comprehensive School. His brother Jack Breen is also an international bowler. Bowls career Breen became a National champion in 2017 when he won the fours title at the Welsh National Bowls Championships and the following year became a National champion for the second time, after winning the triples title. Daniel Salmon (born 1994) is a Welsh international lawn and Indoor bowler. Bowls career He made his first indoor international appearance aged just 15 in 2010 becoming the youngest person to represent Wales indoors. Aaron Wilson (born 24 November 1991) is an Australian international lawn bowler. Bowls career Wilson won the 2016 World Junior Championships and won the gold medal with bowls partner Brett Wilkie in the pairs at the 2016 World Outdoor Bowls Championship and won a silver medal in the fours. He won the Australian Open singles title in 2013.
