Gary Kelly (bowls)
Gary Kelly (born 10 May 1989) is an Australian based Northern Irish international indoor and lawn bowler. Bowls career Outdoors He won a bronze medal in the Men's singles at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. In 2011 he won the pairs silver medal at the Atlantic Bowls Championships and in 2015 he won the pairs gold medal at the Atlantic Bowls Championships. He won a silver medal for a combined Irish team with bowls pairs partner Ian McClure in the pairs at the 2016 World Outdoor Bowls Championship. In 2018 he was selected as part of the Northern Ireland team for the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in Queensland and in 2020 he was selected for the 2020 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Australia. In addition to his international successes he also won the 2007 Irish National Bowls Championships singles. Ballymoney ( ga, Baile Monaidh , meaning 'townland of the moor') is a small town and civil parish in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It is within the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council area. The civil parish of Ballymoney is situated in the historic baronies of Dunluce Upper and Kilconway in County Antrim, as well as the barony of North East Liberties of Coleraine in County Londonderry. Northern Ireland competed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast, Queensland, Gold Coast, Australia from April 4 to April 15, 2018. 2022 Commonwealth Games
The 2022 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXII Commonwealth Games and commonly known as Birmingham 2022, was an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth of Nations that took place in Birmingham, England between 28 July and 8 August 2022. Birmingham was announced as host on 21 December 2017. The Games marked England's third time hosting the Commonwealth Games after London 1934 and Manchester 2002, and the 7th Games held in the United Kingdom, with previous events in Wales and Scotland: Cardiff 1958, Edinburgh 1970 and 1986 and Glasgow 2014. Australian National Bowls Championships
The Australian National Bowls Championships and the Australian Open are organised by Bowls Australia. Bowls dates back to 1845 in Australia but it was not until 1910, during the 1910 Carnival of bowls that South Australia proposed the formation of the Australian Bowling Council (consisting of the six states) which duly formed the following year in 1911. The first National Singles Championships were held in 1913, with each state holding the Championships in turn. The Championships were also known as the Carnival at one stage. The Championships were not held for a twelve year period from 2005 until 2016 when the Australian Open effectively replaced the National Championships. Brendan Aquilina (born 23 September 1987) is a Maltese international lawn and indoor bowler. Bowls career Outdoors He was born in Wollongong, Australia and started bowling at the Jamberoo Bowling Club in New South Wales. He represented Malta in the 2010 Commonwealth Games. He was selected as part of the Maltese team for the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in Queensland where he reached the semi-finals of the Pairs with Shaun Parnis. In 2019 he won the pairs bronze medal with Mark Malogorski at the Atlantic Bowls Championships and in 2020 he was selected for the 2020 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Australia. Corey Wedlock
Corey Wedlock (born 15 June 1996) is an international Australian lawn and indoor bowler. Bowls career Corey made his international debut in 2017 and has twice won the pairs with Nathan Pedersen at the Hong Kong International Bowls Classic in 2015 and 2016. In 2020 he was selected for the 2020 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Australia. In 2021, Wedlock won the delayed triples title with Gary Kelly and Brendan Aquilina at the delayed Australian National Bowls Championships. The following day he also won the fours title with Aquilina, Jamie Turner and Aaron Teys. Irish National Bowls Championships
The Irish National Bowls Championships combines Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Traditionally the game was played mainly in Northern Ireland but the Kenilworth Bowling Club of Dublin joined the Irish Bowls Association in 1906 which prompted the merger into one team. With the exception of the Commonwealth Games players continue to represent a combined Ireland team. The singles championship is called the Dr Rusk Cup named after Dr John Rusk, President of the IBA and the singles representative player at the Lawn Bowls at the 1934 British Empire Games. The Pairs is called the T.W McMullan Cup, the Triples is known as the Charlie Clawson Cup and the Fours is known as the C.L MacKean Cup. 2020 World Outdoor Bowls Championship
The 2020 World Outdoor Bowls Championship was to be the 14th edition of the World Championships to be held at the Broadbeach Bowls Club, Musgrave Hill Bowls Club and Club Helensvale on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. There were to be eight events that determined the 2021 world champions, the men's singles, doubles, triples and fours and the women's singles, doubles, triples and fours and in addition there are two overall team winners who receive the Leonard and Taylor trophies respectively. It was originally scheduled from 23 May to 7 June 2020 but the event was officially cancelled on 9 March 2021.
