Laurier Heights is a residential neighbourhood in west Edmonton, Alberta, Canada overlooking the North Saskatchewan River valley. A portion of the neighbourhood along Buena Vista Road is located in the river valley, and this portion is sometimes called Buena Vista. Most of the residential development in the neighbourhood occurred after World War II, with approximately six out of every ten (58%) residences being built between 1946 in Canada, 1946 and 1960 in Canada, 1960, and approximate four in ten residences being built between 1961 in Canada, 1961 and 1970 in Canada, 1970. Valley Zoo
The Edmonton Valley Zoo (sometimes known simply as the Valley Zoo) is a zoo located in Edmonton, Alberta's river valley. The Edmonton Valley Zoo is owned and operated by the City of Edmonton and is open 364 days a year, closing only on Christmas. The zoo is currently accredited by Canada's Accredited Zoos and Aquariums and is one of three accredited zoos in Alberta. History The Valley Zoo opened on July 1, 1959, as a replacement for a previous Edmonton Zoo (Borden Park Zoo) which was torn down to expand Northlands Park (now Northlands). The zoo is home to over 350 exotic and native animals and houses over 100 different species. Parkview, Edmonton
Parkview is a residential neighbourhood in west Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Parkview is one of the larger residential neighbourhoods in the city, and is located adjacent to the North Saskatchewan River Valley in the west portion of the City. The neighbourhood has good access to Whitemud Drive and Stony Plain Road, and the interior street layout is based on a modified grid network. Most of Parkview developed in the mid-to-late 1950s. Almost all homes are single-detached houses, although there is a small apartment-style building located in the centre of the neighbourhood adjacent to the Valleyview Shopping Centre and Parkview Elementary and Junior High School. The Shopping Centre is located on 142 Street, in the heart of the neighborhood. Jasper Park, Edmonton
Jasper Park is a neighbourhood in west Edmonton, Alberta, Canada that was once a part of the Town of Jasper Place. It became a part of Edmonton when Jasper Place amalgamated with Edmonton in 1964. It is a smaller residential neighbourhood bounded on the south by 87 Avenue, on the east by 149 Street, on the west by 156 Street, and on the north by 92 Avenue. Residents have access to shopping. Not only are there two strip shopping centres in the neighbourhood, Meadowlark Health and Shopping Centre is located immediately to the west in the neighbourhood of Meadowlark Park.
