Laurie Williams (wheelchair Basketball)
Laurie Anne Williams (born 4 February 1992) is a 2.5 point British-Irish wheelchair basketball player who participated at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, and the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, representing Great Britain. Early life and education Williams was born on 4 February 1992 at Wythenshawe Hospital and grew up in Altrincham. At the age of eighteen months, an undiagnosed viral infection resulted in her developing motor neuropathy in her trunk and legs. She attended Altrincham Grammar School for Girls and later completed further education at Loreto College in Manchester. Following the completion of her A-Levels, Williams enrolled at Loughborough University and proceeded to graduate with a first class honours Bachelor of Science degree in social psychology. 2015 Women's U25 Wheelchair Basketball World Championship
The 2015 Women's U25 Wheelchair Basketball World Championship was held at the China Disability Sports Training Centre in Beijing from 30 June to 6 July 2015. Six nations competed: Australia, Canada, China, Germany, Great Britain and Japan. The event took the form of a Round-robin tournament, with each team playing all the other teams once. The top four teams then went into semi-finals, while the bottom two played each other for world ranking. The winners of the semi-finals faced each other in the final, while the losers played for bronze. The championship was won by Team Great Britain. Australia came second and China third. Amy Conroy
Amy Conroy (born 22 October 1992) is a 4.0 point British wheelchair basketball player who represented Great Britain in the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, the 2016 Summer Paralympics in a Rio de Janeiro, co captained the team to win Gold in the under 25 World Wheelchair Basketball Championships in Beijing and won a silver medal at the 2018 World Wheelchair Basketball Championships in Hamburg. Biography Amy Conroy was born on 22 October 1992. When she was young, she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a common bone cancer that runs in her family. Chemotherapy failed to arrest the cancer and she had to have her left leg amputated. Conroy tried wheelchair basketball and found that she enjoyed the speed and aggression of the sport.
