Laurent Dorique
Laurent Dorique (born 10 July 1976) is a French track and field athlete who competes in the javelin throw. He was the gold medallist at the 2001 Mediterranean Games and the 2001 Francophonie Games. He was three times a gold medallist for his native Réunion at the Indian Ocean Island Games, winning in 1993, 1998 and 2011. Athletics is a group of sporting events that involves competitive running, jumping, throwing, and walking. The most common types of athletics competitions are track and field, road running, cross country running, and racewalking. The results of racing events are decided by finishing position (or time, where measured), while the jumps and throws are won by the athlete that achieves the highest or furthest measurement from a series of attempts. The simplicity of the competitions, and the lack of a need for expensive equipment, makes athletics one of the most common types of sports in the world. The French Athletics Championships (french: Championnats de France d'athlétisme) is an annual outdoor track and field competition organised by the Fédération française d'athlétisme (FFA; French Athletics Federation), which serves as the French national championships for the sport. At the 2001 Jeux de la Francophonie, the athletics events were held at Terry Fox Stadium in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada between 19 and 23 July 2001.
