Laurens District 55 High School
Laurens District 55 High School, also referred to as LDHS or simply Laurens High School, is a four-year public high school in Laurens, South Carolina. It is the only high school in Laurens School District 55 and one of two in Laurens County, South Carolina. The feeder schools include Laurens Middle School, Sanders Middle School, Gray Court Owings, and Hickory Tavern Middle School. History The school was opened in 1972 when Hickory Tavern, Sanders, Gray Court-Owings School, Ford and Laurens High schools were consolidated into one high school. "District 55" was added to the end of the name to differentiate between the pre-existing Laurens High School, and to appease the communities represented by the three other high schools. Laurens is a city in Laurens County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 9,139 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Laurens County. History Located in upstate South Carolina, the city of Laurens is named after Henry Laurens, a South Carolina merchant and rice planter who was one of America's wealthiest slave traders. He was a delegate to and second president of the Continental Congress and served as a diplomat. It is part of the Greenville– Mauldin– Easley Metropolitan Statistical Area. Clinton High School (CHS) is a four-year public high school located in Clinton, South Carolina, United States. It is the lone high school in Laurens County School District 56 and one of two in Laurens County, South Carolina. History Clinton High School was originally housed on Hampton Avenue; it opened in 1917. This school was later replaced by a new building on North Adair Street, which opened in 1956. Hillcrest High School is a public high school in Simpsonville, South Carolina, United States, and is one of the largest high schools in the Greenville County School District. Laurens County is a county located in the U.S. state of South Carolina. As of the 2020 census, its population was 67,539. Its county seat is Laurens. Gray Court-Owings School
Gray Court-Owings School is a historic school building located at Gray Court, Laurens County, South Carolina. The building consists of a two-story central brick building constructed in 1914, with a flanking one-story brick-veneered high school building and a one-story brick-veneered auditorium, both built in 1928. The flanking buildings are designed in the Colonial Revival style with Tuscan order porticos. A two-story Tuscan order portico was added to the entrance of the 1914 building in 1928. A contributing one-story frame potato house was built in the 1930s to help local farmers preserve their crops. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.
