Laurens County is a County (United States), county located in the Central Georgia, central part of the U.S. state of Georgia (U.S. state), Georgia. Laurens (foaled 12 April 2015) is a French-bred British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse. In a career running from July 2017 to October 2019 she ran 17 times, winning eight races, including six at the highest Group 1 level. In 2017 she won a minor event on her racecourse debut and then finished second to Polydream in the Prix du Calvados before her victories in the May Hill Stakes and Fillies' Mile. In the following year she ran second to Billesdon Brook in the 1000 Guineas and then embarked on a successful campaign in her native France, taking both the Prix Saint-Alary and the Prix de Diane. When tried over one and a half miles she failed to stay the distance in the Yorkshire Oaks but when brought back to one mile she upset Alpha Centauri in the Matron Stakes and then added a fifth Group 1 success when taking the Sun Chariot Stakes. Laurens Railroad
The Laurens Railroad was a gauge shortline railroad that served the South Carolina Upstate region before, during and after the Civil War. The line was started in 1854. By 1861, the 32-mile line was carrying 8,500 passengers a day. Among the line's presidents was Henry William Garlington (1811-1893), a planter who signed the South Carolina Ordinance of Secession in 1860. The railroad apparently went out of business sometime after the Civil War. By 1881 it had been reorganized and was operating as the Laurens Railway. USS ''Laurens'' (APA-153) was a ''Haskell''-class attack transport in service with the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946. She was scrapped in 1988. Black; acquired by the Navy 7 September 1944; and commissioned the same day. Laurens Peninsula () is a rugged peninsula surmounted by several ice-covered peaks that forms the northwestern part of Heard Island in the southern Indian Ocean. The name was applied by the Australian National Antarctic Research Expedition following their survey in 1948. It derives from the existing name Cape Laurens, applied for the northwestern extremity of this peninsula after the American bark ''Laurens'' which, under Captain Franklin F.
