Lauren Ashley Gibson (born August 19, 1991) is an Americans, American softball player. Personal life Gibson's hometown is Pasadena, Maryland. Her parents are Steve and Lorrie Gibson, and she has an older sister named Danielle. Amateur softball career She attended Chesapeake High School (Anne Arundel County) where she played softball, basketball, and soccer. Gibson led the Chesapeake softball team to 2 consecutive class 4A state championships, pitching no-hitters in both games. Currently, she attends the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources at University of Tennessee. Gibson was chosen as a NFCA first-team All-American in 2011, after winning the SEC batting title with a .420 average. In 2012 after leading the Lady Vols to the Women's College World Series, she was once again chosen as a NFCA first-team All-American at second base. Pan American Games
The Pan American Games (also known colloquially as the Pan Am Games) is a continental multi-sport event in the Americas featuring summer sports, in which thousands of athletes participate in a variety of competitions. United States Women's National Softball Team
The United States women's national softball team is the national softball team of the United States. It is governed by USA Softball (formerly known as the Amateur Softball Association) and takes part in international softball competitions. The US team has been dominant in international play, taking the gold medal in three straight Olympics and seven straight world championships. They won the silver medal at the 2008 and 2020 Summer Olympics. In the 2004 Olympics the team held its opponents to one run scored in 7 games. The lone run came in a 5–1 victory over the Australian team. It was the first run scored by an opponent against the US softball team in 9 games. The Southeastern Conference Player of the Year is a softball award given to the Southeastern Conference's most outstanding player. The award was first given following the 1997 season, with both pitchers and position players eligible. After the 2002 season, the Southeastern Conference Softball Pitcher of the Year award was created to honor the most outstanding pitcher. Women's College World Series
The Women's College World Series (WCWS) is the final portion of the NCAA Division I softball tournament for college softball in the United States. Eight teams participate in the WCWS, which begins with a double-elimination tournament. In other words, a team is eliminated when it has lost two games. After six teams have been eliminated, the remaining two teams compete in a best-of-three series to determine the Division I WCWS National Champion. Opponents are chosen in such a way that it is possible for any two of the eight teams to meet in the championship series. In this respect the WCWS differs from the Men's College World Series in baseball, in which the eight teams are divided into two brackets of four teams each, and the winner of one bracket meets the winner of the other bracket in the best-of-three championship series. Chesapeake High School (Anne Arundel County)
Chesapeake Senior High School (CHS) is one of two high schools in Maryland by that name. The other is the Chesapeake High School of Baltimore County. It is one of two public high schools in Pasadena, the other being Northeast High School, Chesapeake's rival school. Chesapeake opened in 1976 due to overcrowding at Northeast. Softball At The 2015 Pan American Games – Women's Tournament
The women's softball tournament at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada, held at the Pan Am Ball Park in Ajax, Ontario from July 19 to 26. For these Games, the women competed in a 6-team tournament. The teams were grouped into one single pool and all teams played each other in a round-robin preliminary round. The top four teams would advance to the semifinals. Qualification A total of six women's team qualified to compete at the games.
