Laura Friedmann (8 April 1860 – after 1893) was a German operatic coloratura soprano. Life Born in Berlin, Friedmann showed her singing talent at an early age and was trained as an opera singer at the Königliche Hochschule in Berlin from 1874 to 1877. Among others, she was trained in singing by Gustav Engel and Adolf Schulze and in acting by Minona Frieb-Blumauer and Karl Gustav Berndal. On 30 June 1877, she passed her exams under the supervision of Joseph Joachim and was discharged into professional life. She had her first engagement in Bremen under the direction of Max Pohl. She made her debut as queen in ''Les Huguenots''. She then stayed in Bremen for two years and afterwards she was engaged in Cologne from 1880 to 1882. on '' |

Semperoper
The Semperoper () is the opera house of the Sächsische Staatsoper Dresden (Saxon State Opera) and the concert hall of the Staatskapelle Dresden (Saxon State Orchestra). Adolph Kohut
Adolph Kohut (10 November 1848 – 21 or 22 November 1917) was a German-Hungarian journalist, literature and cultural historian, biographer, recitator and translator from Hungarian origin. Life Born in Mindszent, Kohut was born as one of thirteen children of the very poor, pious Talmud scholar Jacob Kohut. He studied from 1866 to 1868 at the Jewish Theological Seminary of Breslau as well as his older brother Alexander. Then he studied two semesters new philology and art history at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Breslau and afterwards at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin. In Vienna he lectured for three years at the University of Vienna and received his PhD from the University of Jena in 1878. In 1872 he was called by Karl von Holtei to the editorial office of the ''Breslauer Nachrichten''. In 1873 he was editor of the ''Düsseldorfer Zeitung''. ''Martha, oder Der Markt zu Richmond'' (''Martha, or The Market at Richmond'') is a ''romantic comic'' opera in four acts by Friedrich von Flotow set to a German libretto by and based on a story by Jules-Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges. Flotow had composed the first act of a ballet, ''Harriette, ou la servante de Greenwiche'', derived from a text by Saint-Georges, for the ballerina Adèle Dumilâtre. This was first performed by the Paris Opera Ballet at the Salle Le Peletier on 21 February 1844. The time available for the composition was short, so the second and third acts were assigned, respectively, to Friedrich Burgmüller and Édouard Deldevez.
