''Late Night with David Letterman'' is an American late-night talk show hosted by David Letterman on NBC, the first iteration of the ''Late Night'' franchise. It premiered on February 1, 1982, and was produced by Letterman's production company, Worldwide Pants Incorporated, and Carson Productions. Letterman had previously hosted his own morning talk show on NBC from June to October 1980. The show's house band, The World's Most Dangerous Band, was led by music director Paul Shaffer. In 1993, Letterman announced that he would leave NBC to host the ''Late Show with David Letterman'' on CBS, and the final episode of ''Late Night'' aired on June 25, 1993. Conan Christopher O'Brien (born April 18, 1963) is an American television host, comedian, writer, and producer. Paul Shaffer and the World's Most Dangerous Band is an American musical ensemble led by Paul Shaffer. It was David Letterman's house band for 33 years. The band formed in 1982 to serve as house band for NBC's '' Late Night with David Letterman''. When Letterman moved to CBS and began hosting the '' Late Show with David Letterman'' in 1993, the band added a horn section and second guitarist, renaming itself (due to an intellectual property dispute with NBC) the CBS Orchestra, a name that lasted until Letterman left the ''Late Show'' in 2015.
