Larry Krystkowiak
Larry Brett Krystkowiak ( ; born September 23, 1964) is a retired American professional basketball player, and former head coach of the Utah Utes men's basketball team. Early life He was born in Missoula, Montana, to Bernard and Helen Krystkowiak. At a young age, his mother always encouraged Larry to participate in sports. His mother died of Hodgkin's lymphoma when he was eight years old and his father remarried. He primarily grew up in Shelby, Montana, and his step-mother did not approve of Larry playing sports. At the age of 15, Larry moved out of Shelby and finished his high school career at Big Sky High School in Missoula. During this time he lived with his older brother Bernie, who became Larry's legal guardian. College career Krystkowiak played college basketball for the University of Montana from 1982 to 1986 and still holds the school records for career points scored (2,017) and rebounds (1,105). Shelby, Montana
Shelby is a city in and the county seat of Toole County, Montana, United States. The population was 3,169 at the 2020 census. History Shelby was named in honor of Peter O. Shelby, General Manager of the Montana Central Railway. A railroad station was established here about 1892, at the junction of the Great Northern Railway and the Great Falls & Canada Railway. On July 4, 1923, the town hosted a heavyweight boxing match between Jack Dempsey and Tommy Gibbons for the undisputed world Heavyweight boxing championship title. Big Sky Conference Men's Basketball Player Of The Year
The Big Sky Conference Player of the Year Award, officially known as the Big Sky Conference Most Valuable Player Award, is an annual basketball award given to the Big Sky Conference's most outstanding player. The award was first given following the 1978–79 season. Only one player, Larry Krystkowiak of Montana, has won the award three times (1984–86). Three others have been two-time winners: Orlando Lightfoot of Idaho (1993, 1994) and Harold Arceneaux (1999, 2000) and Damian Lillard (2010, 2012) of Weber State. Weber State has the most all-time awards (11) and individual winners (9). Montana is second in total awards with seven; Eastern Washington is second in individual winners with six. Only one current Big Sky member, Southern Utah (which joined in 2012 and will leave for the Western Athletic Conference after the 2021–22 season), has never had a winner. Hodgkin's Lymphoma
Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) is a type of lymphoma, in which cancer originates from a specific type of white blood cell called lymphocytes, where multinucleated Reed–Sternberg cells (RS cells) are present in the patient's lymph nodes. The condition was named after the English physician Thomas Hodgkin, who first described it in 1832. Symptoms may include fever, night sweats, and weight loss. Often, nonpainful enlarged lymph nodes occur in the neck, under the arm, or in the groin. Those affected may feel tired or be itchy. The two major types of Hodgkin lymphoma are classic Hodgkin lymphoma and nodular lymphocyte-predominant Hodgkin lymphoma. Assist (basketball)
In basketball, an assist is attributed to a player who passes the ball to a teammate in a way that leads directly to a score by field goal, meaning that they were "assisting" in the basket. An assist is also credited when a basket is awarded due to defensive goaltending. There is some judgment involved in deciding whether a passer should be credited with an assist. In basketball, a rebound, sometimes colloquially referred to as a board, is a statistic awarded to a player who retrieves the ball after a missed field goal or free throw. Rebounds in basketball are a routine part in the game; if a shot is successfully made possession of the ball will change, otherwise the rebound allows the defensive team to take possession. Rebounds are also given to a player who tips in a missed shot on his team's offensive end. A rebound can be grabbed by either an offensive player or a defensive player. The 2017–18 Pac-12 Conference men's basketball season began with practices in October 2017 followed by the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season on November 10, 2017. The 2005 Big Sky men's basketball tournament was played from March 5 to March 9. The First Round of the tournament was held at the higher seed's home arena, and the semi-finals and championship were held at the Memorial Coliseum in Portland, Oregon, which is the home of regular season champion Portland State.
