Jesús Larrañaga
Jesus Larrañaga Churruca (17 April 1901 – 21 January 1942) was a Basque communist union leader who became one of the military leaders during the Spanish Civil War (1936–39). He went into exile after the fall of the Republic to the Francoist forces, but later returned to Portugal. He was arrested, handed over to the Spanish and executed by firing squad. Early years Jesus Larrañaga Churruca was born on 17 April 1901 in Urretxu, Gipuzkoa in the Basque Country. His father was a building contractor and his mother took in ironing. Two of his brothers were Jesuits at the seminary of Javier, near to Pamplona. He studied at the seminary for several years and was an excellent student, but was expelled for rebelling against discipline. Union activism Larrañaga started work as a metalworker at the wagon-making factory at Beasain, Gipuzkoa, which had 2,000 workers. Por Larrañaga (meaning ''by Larrañaga'') is the name of a cigar brand produced in Cuba for Habanos S.A., the Cuban state-owned tobacco company, as well as a non-Cuban line of cigars produced in the Dominican Republic and Honduras for Altadis, a subsidiary of Imperial Brands. Por Larrañaga cigars have been in continuous production in Cuba since 1834. Lorenzo Archibeque Larrañaga (December 31, 1937 – October 9, 2018) was a Republican member of the New Mexico House of Representatives, representing the 27th District since 1995. He served on the House Agriculture and Water Resources committee, Appropriations and Finance committee and Rules and Order of Business committee. He attended the University of New Mexico where he attained his masters and bachelor's degrees in engineering and civil engineering. He served in the United States Army. Juan Antonio Larrañaga Gurruchaga (alt.spelling Ion Andoni; born 3 July 1958) is a Spanish retired footballer who played as a defender. Club career Larrañaga was born in Azpeitia, Gipuzkoa, Basque Country. He started playing as a defensive midfielder, being signed by Real Sociedad in 1977 from local CD Lagun Onak. In January 1980 he made his first-team debut in the Copa del Rey, against Navarre neighbours Peña Sport FC. Although he featured sparingly in the 1980–81 season, as Real won the first of their two consecutive La Liga titles, Larrañaga did take the field in the decisive draw at Sporting de Gijón in the last round, and featured in all the matches the following campaign whilst adding two goals. José De Larrañaga
Fray José de Larrañaga (17281806) was a Franciscan friar, organist, ''maestro de capilla'' of the Sanctuary of Arantzazu, composer, and was active in the Basque musical and cultural movement of the 18th century. Life Larrañaga was born in Azkoitia (Spanish Azcoitia) in 1728, and entered the Franciscan order as a young man. Although formal music in the Sanctuary of Arantzazu was still modelled on traditional Spanish models of Morales, Guerrero and Victoria, Larrañaga also had access to, and was influenced by the late Baroque Italianate style of Handel and Domenico Scarlatti. For example, the archive in Arantzazu contains two concertos by Handel copied in 1758. Jorge Washington Larrañaga Fraga (8 August 1956 – 22 May 2021) was an Uruguayan politician of the National Party (PN) who was Minister of the Interior from 1 March 2020 until his death. James Joseph Larrañaga ( ; born October 2, 1949) is the head men's basketball coach for the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. He has held this position since 2011. Before joining the University of Miami, he served as the head men's basketball coach at American International College from 1977 to 1979, Bowling Green State University from 1986 to 1997, and George Mason University from 1997 to 2011, where he coached the Patriots to 13 consecutive winning seasons and became a media sensation during the Patriots' improbable run to the Final Four of the 2006 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament. James Joseph Larranaga Jr. (born January 30, 1975) is an American professional basketball coach and former player who currently serves on the staff of the Los Angeles Clippers.
