Larne Lough (District Electoral Area)
Larne Lough is one of the seven district electoral areas (DEA) in Mid and East Antrim, Northern Ireland. The district elects five members to Mid and East Antrim District Council and contains the wards of Ballycarry and Glynn, Curran and Inver, Islandmagee, Kilwaughter and Whitehead South.
ARK, accessed 8 July 2023 Larne Lough forms part of the East Antrim constituencies for the East Antrim (Assembly constituency), Northern Ireland Assembly and East Antrim (UK Parliament constituency), UK Parliament. It was created for the 1985 Larne Borough Council election, 1985 local elections, replacing Larne Area B and part of Larne Area C which had existed since 1973, where it originally contained five wards (Antiville, Ballycarry, Glynn, Island Magee and Kilwaughter). Bobby McKee
Bobby McKee, MBE (1941 – 24 January 2021) was a Unionist politician in Larne, Northern Ireland and former member of the Ulster Volunteer Force. McKee was a Democratic Unionist Party councillor and a member of Larne Borough Council since 1989. He served as a Mayor of Larne in 2004 and 2008. His brother Jack McKee, who died in 2015, was a DUP councillor in Larne and subsequently a member of the Traditional Unionist Voice. He lost both his legs in 1974 as the result of an Irish Republican Army car bomb when he was a member of the UVF. A founder member and chairman of the N.I. Amputees Association he was also chairman of Larne Disabled Fitness Suite. Bobby was Vice chairman of C.A.B. and was a member for 10 years. A member of N.I. Housing Council for 15 years he served as a board member for 6 years. He received the MBE in 2004 in recognition of his work in politics. Roy Beggs
John Robert Beggs (born 20 February 1936), commonly known as Roy Beggs, is an Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) politician. Beggs was educated at Ballyclare High School, followed by Stranmillis College, to study teacher training. After his training Beggs became a teacher at Larne High School and had risen to be deputy principal before leaving the profession upon his election to the Westminster Parliament. Danny Donnelly (politician)
Danny Donnelly is a Northern Irish politician who has been an Alliance Party Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for East Antrim since May 2022. Political career Early career (2011-2022) Donnelly began his political career as a candidate for the Green Party NI in the 2011 local elections for Larne Borough Council, before leaving the party to join Alliance. Donnelly later ran in the newly formed Mid and East Antrim Borough Council in the 2014 local elections as the Alliance candidate for the Braid constituency, but failed to be elected. Following this, he ran alongside Stewart Dickson in the 2016 and 2017 Northern Ireland Assembly elections, coming 9th and then 8th - but failing to be elected. The 2023 election to Mid and East Antrim District Council was held on 18 May 2023, alongside other local elections in Northern Ireland, two weeks after local elections in England.
