Larisa Berezhnaya
Larysa Berezhna ( ua, Лариса Бережна, also russian: Лариса Бережная - ''Larisa Berezhnaya;'' born 28 February 1961) is a retired long jumper, born in Kyiv, who represented the USSR and later Ukraine. She first gained recognition with a bronze medal at the 1989 World Indoor Championships and a fourth place at the 1990 European Championships. In 1991 she won a gold medal at the World Indoor Championships and a bronze medal at the outdoor World Championships. The same year she jumped 7.24 metres, which puts her 14th in the all-time performers list. Long Jump
The long jump is a track and field event in which athletes combine speed, strength and agility in an attempt to leap as far as possible from a takeoff point. Along with the triple jump, the two events that measure jumping for distance as a group are referred to as the "horizontal jumps". This event has a history in the ancient Olympic Games and has been a modern Olympic event for men since the first Olympics in 1896 and for women since 1948. The 4th World Championships in Athletics, under the auspices of the International Association of Athletics Federations, were held in the Neckarstadium, Stuttgart, Germany between 13 and 22 August with the participation of 187 nations. The 4th IAAF World Indoor Championships in Athletics were held at the Skydome in Toronto, Ontario, Canada from March 12 to March 14, 1993. It was the last Indoor Championships to feature the 5,000 and 3,000 metres race walk events.
