La Prairie is a provincial electoral district in Quebec, Canada that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It notably consists of the city of La Prairie and three other smaller cities. Prior to 1988, it was spelled as one word: Laprairie. It was originally created for the 1867 election (and an electoral district of that name existed earlier in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada and the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada). Its final election was in 1919. It disappeared in the 1923 election and its successor electoral district was Napierville-Laprairie. La Prairie (previously known as Laprairie) is a federal electoral district in Quebec, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 1896, 1968 to 1997 and again since 2015. History The riding of Laprairie was created by the British North America Act of 1867. It consisted of the Parishes of Laprairie, Saint-Philippe, Saint Jacques le Mineur, Saint Isidore and Saint Constant, the Indian Lands of Sault Saint Louis, and all islands in the River Saint Lawrence close to the county. It was abolished in 1892 when it was redistributed into the Châteauguay and Laprairie—Napierville electoral districts. Châteauguay-Laprairie was a former provincial electoral district in the province of Quebec, Canada. Many sources (including the National Assembly website) write it as Châteauguay-La Prairie, but contemporary sources show the "Laprairie" part of the name written as one word. This alternate way of spelling it is probably by analogy with the modern-day La Prairie electoral district, which was spelled "Laprairie" before 1988. It was created for the 1939 election, from parts of the Châteauguay and Napierville-Laprairie electoral districts. It existed for only that one election. Laprairie—Napierville was a federal electoral district in Quebec, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1896 to 1935. This riding was created in 1892 from Laprairie and Napierville ridings. Sainte-Catherine is an off-island suburb of Montreal, in southwestern Quebec, Canada, on the St. Lawrence River in the Regional County Municipality of Roussillon. The population as of the Canada 2011 Census was 16,762. History The land had been occupied for more than three centuries, since the establishment of the Iroquois mission in 1676, it is only in 1937 that the founding of la paroisse de Sainte-Catherine de Laprairie really marks a territorial organization. In 1973, a demographic boom finally granted the status of town to the village. In 2006, according to the city's official site, there were 17,000 inhabitants in Sainte-Catherine.
