Lappeenranta Airport
Lappeenranta Airport ( fi, Lappeenrannan lentoasema) is an international airport in Lappeenranta, Finland. It is 2.5 kilometers southwest of the city center and Lappeenranta Central Station. Opened in 1918, Lappeenranta Airport is the oldest airport still in operation in Finland. The Karelia Aviation Museum is in the airport. Flight go on low altitude straight over Lappeenranta midtown which is located 1½ kilometer (1 mile) from the eastern end of the runway. History The airport opened in 1918. Between 1939 and 1944, during World War II, the airport operated as a military air base. In 1951, passenger traffic began at the airport. In 1960, the existing terminal was completed. In 1998, the runway was extended to 2,500 metres. In September 2006, the railway between Lahti and Kerava opened, shortening the travel time by rail to Helsinki and caused the closure of the Lappeenranta-Helsinki air route. Lappeenranta (; sv, Villmanstrand) is a city and municipality in the region of South Karelia, about from the Russian border and from the town of Vyborg (''Viipuri''). Savonlinja
The Savonlinja Group is a bus-service provider in Eastern Finland, and a public transport provider in Southern Finland. In 1924 Toivo J. Honkanen, Senior Advisor for Finance and the founder of the Savonlinja Group, started a passenger service between Lappeenranta and Lauritsala with his Ford Model-T. Today the group is run by director Raimo O. Honkanen, Senior Advisor for Road Transport. In addition to the Eastern Finland region, Helsinki and Turku and their surrounding areas are also core areas. The international traffic handled by the Savonlinja Group comprises a number of routes into Russia and Sweden. Lappeenranta Railway Station
Lappeenranta Central Station (Finnish: ''Lappeenrannan rautatieasema'', Swedish language: ''Villmanstrands järnvägsstation'') is a train station located in the city of Lappeenranta in Finland. The station is served by traffic to Helsinki and Joensuu. The layout of the station building was changed in the early 2000s. The ticket office and incoming cargo deposit were transferred from the east side of the waiting room to the west side, and the café on the west side was transferred to the east side, without a wall in between. The station has a taxi stop and local bus traffic stop. There is a travel center next to Lappeenranta Central. It has Matkahuolto and post offices. Air charter is the business of renting an entire aircraft (i.e., chartering) as opposed to individual aircraft seats (i.e., purchasing a airline ticket, ticket through a traditional airline).
