''Lankhmar'' is a fantasy board wargame published by TSR in 1976 that is based on both the '' Swords and Sorcery'' short stories of Fritz Leiber set in the fictional city of Lankhmar, and on a board game designed by Lieber and Harry Otto Fischer while they were in college. Description ''Lankhmar'' is a 2–4 player game in which each player takes on the role of a different hero from Fritz Leiber's "Lankhmar" short stories: Fafhrd, the Gray Mouser, Pulgh, or Movarl. David Megarry
David R. Megarry is a game designer most notable for the board game ''Dungeon!''. Career Early gaming and Blackmoor Dave Megarry was a member of the Midwest Military Simulation Association (MMSA), along with Dave Arneson, David Wesely, Ken Fletcher, John and Richard Snider and others. Jon Peterson identifies Megarry as playing the King of Prussia in their Napoleonic wargames campaigns. Megarry was also a member of Dave Arneson's original Twin Cities Blackmoor group. Megarry has brought to light Blackmoor gaming materials used in the early days of the game. These include regional maps, dungeon maps, and character matrices. The Blackmoor character matrices start in 1971, and cover approximately 20 characters played over time. The various attributes include Brains, Leadership, Courage, Health, Woodcraft, Horsemanship, Sailing, etc. They also include some history about each character, including the character's death. Eric Goldberg (game Designer)
Eric Goldberg is an American game designer who has worked primarily on role-playing games. Career For Simulations Publications, Incorporated (SPI), Eric Goldberg designed ''Commando'', a man-to-man tactical combat game featuring character creation and skills. Goldberg also designed ''DragonQuest'' (1980), SPI's biggest roleplaying game and perhaps its first true roleplaying game. Goldberg also contributed to Chaosium's ''Thieves' World'' (1981). Goldberg and his long-time friend and SPI co-worker Greg Costikyan approached Dan Gelber about turning Gelber's RPG design called 'Paranoia' from a game he ran for his local group into a professional product. Gelber gave Goldberg and Costikyan his notes and they turned those ideas into a complete manuscript. ''Ares'' was an American science fiction wargame magazine published by Simulations Publications, Inc. (SPI), and then TSR, Inc., between 1980 and 1984. In addition to the articles, each issue contained a wargame, complete with a foldout stiff paper map, a set of cardboard counters, and the rules. Publication history Simulations Publications, Inc. (SPI) began publishing ''Ares'' in 1980 as a science-fiction companion to ''Strategy & Tactics''.''Ares'' magazine was similar to ''Strategy & Tactics'', with a game every issue, but it focused on science-fiction and fantasy. ''Dungeon!'' is an adventure board game designed by David R. Megarry and first released by TSR, Inc. in 1975. Additional contributions through multiple editions were made by Gary Gygax, Steve Winter, Jeff Grubb, Chris Dupuis and Michael Gray. ''Dungeon!'' simulates some aspects of the ''Dungeons & Dragons'' (''D&D'') role-playing game, which was released in 1974, although Megarry had a prototype of ''Dungeon!'' ready as early as 1972. ''Dungeon!'' features a map of a simple six-level dungeon with hallways, rooms, and chambers. Players move around the board seeking to defeat monsters and claim treasure. Don Lowry
Don Lowry is a wargamer, businessman, illustrator, and game designer who is best known as the publisher of ''Chainmail'' and the editor of ''Panzerfaust Magazine''. Lowry was active in the International Federation of Wargaming in the late 1960s and ran a mail order business called "Lowry's Hobbies" with his wife Julie. In 1970 he produced a supplement to the Avalon Hill game ''Battle of the Bulge'' called '' Operation Greif'' which was distributed via the IFW newsletter. In 1971 he started a publishing imprint called Guidon Games which produced rulebooks for miniature wargaming and board wargames, and he tapped Gary Gygax to serve as editor. Lowry designed two of the games, ''Ironclad'' and ''Atlanta'', himself and provided the illustrations for some of the other games. Lowry's mail order business was originally in Evansville, Indiana, but he relocated to Belfast, Maine in 1972.
