Landon Mackenzie
Landon Mackenzie (born November 29, 1954) is a Canadian artist based in Vancouver, British Columbia. She is nationally known for her large-format paintings and her contribution as a professor at the Emily Carr University of Art and Design (she is now Professor Emeritus). Early life and education Mackenzie was born was in Boston, Massachusetts and grew up in Toronto, Ontario. She has credited the mentorship of the Painter's 11's Harold Town, a friend of her parents and neighbour of her grandmother as being one of her inspirations around her decision to pursue a career as an artist, she has said "I went into Harold's studio and I just thought 'I want this'". She earned a Bachelor's Fine Arts degree from the Nova Scotia School of Art and Design in 1976 where she studied printmaking with a focus on etching and earned a Master's of Fine Arts from Concordia University in 1979 where she studied with Guido Molinari and Irene F. Guido Molinari
Guido Molinari (October 12, 1933 – February 21, 2004) was a Canadian artist, known internationally for his serial abstract paintings. Biography Molinari was born in Montreal, Quebec to Italian heritage with his parents from Cune (Borgo a Mozzano, Tuscany) and Naples, Campania. He began painting at age 13, and his existentialist approach to art was formed during a bout with tuberculosis at age 16, during which he read Nietzsche, Sartre, Piaget, and Camus. He studied at the École des beaux-arts de Montréal (1948-1950) and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (1951), studying with Marian Scott and Gordon Webber. He practiced abstraction in New York, inspired by Barnett Newman, and Jackson Pollock, then returned to Montreal where he founded the Galerie L’Actuelle and helped create the Non-Figurative Artists Association. The Governor General's Awards in Visual and Media Arts are annual awards for achievements in visual and media arts in Canada.
