Paula Ivan
Paula Ivan (born 20 July 1963 as Ionescu, later known as Ilie) is a retired Romanian middle-distance runner. Born in Herăști, Giurgiu County, she graduated from the Gheorghe Șincai High School in Bucharest in 1982. In 1987, Ivan won gold medals in the 1500 m and 3000 m at the 1987 Summer Universiade. Later the same year at the World Championships she did not advance past the heats of the same events. In July 1988 she won the 800 m and 1500 m events at the Balkan Games, setting her all-times personal best over 800 m. On 27 July at Verona Ivan broke the 4-minute barrier over 1500 m, clocking 3:58.80. She improved to 3:56.22 in Zurich on 17 August. At the 1988 Summer Olympics she won a silver medal in her first event, 3000 m, followed by a gold in the 1500 m. Her winning time, 3:53.96 was the Olympic record until 2021. Athletics At The 2001 East Asian Games
At the 2001 East Asian Games, the athletics events were held in Osaka, Japan from 23 to 26 May 2001. A total of 45 events were contested, of which 23 by male and 22 by female athletes. All events were held at the Nagai Stadium, with the exception of the racewalking and half marathon events. A team of Australian athletes took part in the competition but they were excluded from the medal tally. This was the last time that Kazakhstan competed in the competition. In the third edition of the multi-sport event, 20 Games records were improved over the four-day athletics competition. China had the greatest gold medal haul with 27, largely due to the success of their women athletes, who won all but three of the women's events. Yin Lili (born 11 November 1979) is a female Chinese middle-distance runner. On 18 October 1997 in Shanghai she ran the 1500 metres in 3:53.91 minutes. This ranks her sixth in the world of all time, behind Qu Yunxia, Jiang Bo, Lang Yinglai, Wang Junxia and Tatyana Kazankina. At the 1998 World Junior Championships she won both the 3000 and the 5000 metres. Yin never had a distinguished career after this, rarely competing internationally. In 2001, she received a two-year suspension for doping. Tatyana Vasilyevna Kazankina (russian: Татья́на Васи́льевна Каза́нкина; born 17 December 1951 in Petrovsk, Saratov Oblast, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union) is a Soviet/Russian former runner who set seven world records and won a total of three gold medals at the Olympic Games.
