William Bradley Lamond
William Bradley Lamond RBA (1857–1924) was a Scottish painter, born at Newtyle, Angus. He had no formal art training and worked for the Caledonian Railway company for many years. He initially specialised in portraits and later worked on landscapes which have been described as "vigorous impressionistic scenes in oil – with a strong use of colour". (NB birthplace is misspelled as "Newtyre") He was elected a member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1906, and exhibited at the Royal Academy, Royal Scottish Academy and Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts. Hector Lamond
Hector Lamond (31 October 1865 – 26 April 1947) was an Australian politician. He was a Nationalist Party member of the Australian House of Representatives from 1917 to 1922, representing the electorate of Illawarra. Early life and career Lamond was born at Broughton Creek, near Berry, New South Wales and educated at public schools. He was apprenticed as a printer to the '' Carcoar Chronicle'' when he was 14 and was its editor at 25. He was involved in the establishment of the Australian Labor Party between 1895 and 1900. In 1902, he married Gwynetha, the daughter of Australian Workers' Union president, William Spence. From 1905 to 1916, he was editor and manager of the Australian Workers' Union's ''The Australian Worker''. During World War I, he came to be opposed to labor radicalism, and in particular to the Industrial Workers of the World. Frederic Lamond (pianist)
Frederic Archibald Lamond (28 January 186821 February 1948) was a Scottish classical pianist and composer, and the second-last surviving pupil of Franz Liszt. Early life Lamond was born in Glasgow, Scotland. In 1882, Lamond entered the Raff-Konservatorium, in Frankfurt. He studied under Hugo Heermann (violin), Anton Urspruch (composition), Max Schwarz (piano); then piano with Hans von Bülow, Clara Schumann and Franz Liszt. 17 November 1885 Lamond made his debut in Berlin. Lamond studied with Franz Liszt at Weimar and Rome in 1885, and in London in 1886. In 1886 Lamond also met Johannes Brahms, who coached him in his own works. Lamond also became acquainted with Anton Rubinstein in Germany, hearing him conduct and play many times there, and later in Russia in the 1890s. Henry George Lamond
Henry George Lamond (13 June 1885 – 12 July 1969) was an Australian farmer and writer, notable for his novels about the land, people and animals of outback Queensland. In addition to his fiction and non-fiction books, he wrote over 900 essays and articles for magazines including ''Walkabout''. At one point in his career he was considered to be the Australian ' Thompson Seton'. Lamond was born at Carl Creek in Queensland's Gulf Country and educated at Brisbane Grammar School and the Queensland Agricultural College, Gatton. He was the son of later police inspector James Lamond. From 1902 to 1927 he worked at jobs ranging from jackaroo to horse-breaker to manager on various properties in western Queensland. Alfred Lamond (25 May 1886 – 10 March 1967) was an Australian politician who was a Labor Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1924 to 1933, representing the seat of Pilbara. Angus Lamond
Angus Lamond (1909–1965) is an American lacrosse player and is considered to be one of the great defensemen of the pre-NCAA era of college lacrosse. A native of Washington, D.C., he attended St. John's College, U.S., better known at the time as St. John's (MD), where he was three times named to the USILA All-American Team. Three times during his career as a player, St. John's won the National Lacrosse Championship, in 1929, 1930 and 1931. Lamond went on to serve as assistant coach for the United States Naval Academy for 11 years, winning two national championships in 1938 and 1946. Donald Douglas Lamond Jr. (August 18, 1920 – December 23, 2003) was an American jazz drummer. Biography Born in Oklahoma City, Lamond attended the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore in the early 1940s, and played with Sonny Dunham and Boyd Raeburn at the outset of his career. In 1944, he performed baritone saxophone and drums on Charlie Parker’s ‘’The Complete Savoy and Dial Studio Recordings 1944-1948’’ and he took over Dave Tough's spot in Woody Herman's big band First Herd in 1945, where he remained until the group disbanded at the end of 1946. In 1947, he briefly freelanced with musicians including Charlie Parker, and then returned to duty under Herman in his Second Herd, where he remained until its 1949 dissolution. He was a National Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 1974 until 1977, representing the electorate of Wynnum. James Alexander Lamond (29 November 1928 – 20 November 2007) was a British Labour Member of Parliament who represented Oldham East from 1970 to 1983 and then Oldham Central and Royton from 1983 until he retired at the 1992 general election. Biography Lamond was born in Burrelton, Perthshire. His father worked for the London and North Eastern Railway. He was educated at schools in Burrelton and Coupar Angus, before becoming an apprentice draughtsman at the Hall and Company shipyard in Aberdeen in 1942, aged 14. He could not afford the fees to study naval architecture in Newcastle, and worked as a draughtsman for the North-east Scotland Regional Hospital Board. Frederic Lamond (5 July 1931 – 24 May 2020) (also known by the craft name Robert) was a prominent English Wiccan. He was an early member of the Gardnerian tradition having been initiated into the Bricket Wood coven in 1957. He became involved in a number of Pagan organisations, including the Fellowship of Isis, and participated in the interfaith movement. He wrote a number of books on the subject of Wiccan theology and history.
