Cortland is a city in central Trumbull County, Ohio, United States. It lies on the eastern shore of Mosquito Creek Lake, north of Youngstown. The population was 7,105 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Youngstown–Warren metropolitan area. History The area was once known as Baconsburg, after Samuel Bacon, who built a sawmill and several buildings in the area during the early 19th century. Cortland became a village in 1874 with the construction of a railroad depot. It became a city in 1980 when its population exceeded 5,000 people. Lakeview High School (Ohio)
Lakeview High School in Cortland, Ohio, is the only high school in the Lakeview School District. Prior to 2010, Lakeview High School taught grades eight through 12; in 2010, the 8th grade was moved to Lakeview Middle School. Since 2009, due to financial issues and the closing of Cortland Elementary School, Lakeview High School again accommodates grades eight to 12. Since the opening of the K-8 in the 2018-19 school year, Lakeview High School now teaches grades 9th through 12th.
