Laila (1997 Film)
''Laila'' is a 1997 Maldivian drama film edited and directed by Abdulla Sujau. Produced by ''Aafathis'', the film stars Aishath Shiranee, Moosa Zakariyya, Aishath Zeeniya, Ali Shameel and Mariyam Haleem in pivotal roles. Premise Laila, an attractive blind girl and the only child of a family, desires to meet her mother, Waheedha (Mariyam Haleem) who has been divorced during her childhood. Mueed (Moosa Zakariyya), a new recruit working at her father, Faiz's (Ali Shameel) office, visits her home upon Faiz's request and is instantly attracted to Laila. Their friendship grows into romance and complications arise when Laila's best-friend, Zeena, realizes her crush, Ahmed, is the same man posing with a different name, whom Laila is romantically linked up with. Fathimath Nahula
Fathimath Nahula (born 22 June 1973) is a Maldivian film director, film producer and screenwriter. Early life In 1991, Nahula joined Jamaluddin school and worked as a teacher for four years. During the time, she spends most of her time in writing and developing stories. She then penned dialogues and stories for several films and television dramas produced by Television Maldives while publishing handful of them on different platforms including newspapers and magazines. Aiming to deliver the real emotions she write on the paper, Nahula decided to pursue a career in film direction. Aishath Shiranee
Aishath Shiranee (born 16 January 1975) is a Maldivian former film actress. Shiranee is the recipient of several awards, including one Gaumee Film Award and three Aafathis Awards. In 2001, the Government of Maldives honoured her with the National Award of Recognition. Career While working in a job at Maldives Customs Service, Shiranee made her screen debut with a video single titled "Hithaa Roohun Asaru Kuranee" alongside Ahmed Ghiyas which was followed by several other video songs before making her film debut with the film ''Naseebu'' (1992). Ali Shameel
Ali Shameel is a Maldivian film actor and director. Career In 1986, Shameel took part in a stage-play titled CDS-6, alongside Kashima Shakir, Mohamed Rasheed and Chilhiya Moosa Manik which was appreciated among the audience and he continues to feature in several other stage dramas. In 1992, Shameel made his career debut in Ahmed Sharmeel and Ibrahim Waheed's family drama film ''Dhon Manma'' (1992) alongside Haajara Abdul Kareem, Ibrahim Shakir and Sharmeel. The film tells the story of a step-mother who strives to create a bond with her step-kids. Mariyam Haleem is a Maldivian actress. Career 1997–2010: Initial releases with small roles Haleem made her film debut in Abdulla Sujau-directed '' Laila'' (1997) starring opposite Ali Shameel and Aishath Shiranee as depressed mother whose daughter was snatched off from her at a very young age. The same year, Haleem starred in Mohamed Ali Manik's '' Maazee'' (2000) alongside Ismail Wajeeh, Jamsheedha Ahmed, Mariyam Nazima and Aminath Rasheedha which narrates the story of two best friends, a boy and a girl, who get separated at childhood and reunite as adults. Fazeela Amir (16 December 1969) is a Maldivian singer. Early life Fazeela Amir was born and raised in the "Amir family" where several artists including Ahmed Amir and Ibrahim Amir were brought up and "ruled" the music industry. She made her career debut with the album ''Hiyy Fahi'' where she lent her voice for eleven songs in the album. Gaumee Film Awards
The Gaumee Film Awards aka Dhivehi Film Awards are presented by National Centre for the Arts to honour both artistic and technical excellence of professionals in the Maldivian film industry. The Gaumee Film Award ceremony is the oldest film events in Maldives. The ceremony had been sponsored by various private organisations in the past as well as in present provisions. A live ceremony was broadcast to television audiences. History A meeting was arranged at MCM on 30 October 1993, once the government decides to hold a Film Festival to honor the film industry. The awards were first introduced in 1994. Out of the twenty two people invited from the fraternity, only ten people showed up for the meeting.
