''O mar na Lajinha'', also as ''No mar da Lajinha'' (Capeverdean Creole, ALUPEK: ''U mar na Lajinha'', ''Nu mar da Lajinha'') is a Capeverdean novel published in 2004 by Germano Almeida. The story is about a group of people meeting regularly for a swim at the Lajinha beach on the island of São Vicente. One of the chapters are named "Women of Lajinha" ("Mulheres de Lajinha"). In 2006, this section of the novel would be adapted into a theatrical play which was performed at GTCCPPM in Mindelo, the area where the novel was set.GTCCPM website

The territory of Cape Verde is divided into 22 ''concelhos'' (municipalities), and subdivided into 32 ''freguesias'' (equivalent to civil parish). In Portuguese language usage, there are two words to distinguish the territory and the administrative organ. Administratively, right below the government, there are the ''municípios'' (municipalities), who administrate the ''concelhos''. Therefore, the ''concelhos'' are the first-level administrative subdivision in Cape Verde. Each municipality has an ''Assembleia Municipal'' (municipal assembly, the legislative body) and a ''Câmara Municipal'' (municipal chamber, the executive body). The Instituto Nacional de Estatística (Portuguese for the ''National Statistics Institute'', abbreviated as INE) is the public statistics institute of Cape Verde. Its current president is Osvaldo Rui Monteiro dos Reis Borges. The population censuses are held every first year of a decade; the most recent was in 2010. Its main office is on 18 Rua da Caixa Económica in the capital city of Praia. History Until 1975, under Portuguese rule, statistics were done by the Provincial Statistics Bureau (''Repartição Provincial de Estatística''), part of the Instituto Nacional de Estatística of Portugal. Porto Grande Bay ( pt, Baía do Porto Grande), also Mindelo Bay, is a bay on the north coast of the island of São Vicente, Cape Verde. The main city of São Vicente, Mindelo, is situated at the bay. The Porto Grande Bay is a natural harbour. It stretches between the headlands Ponta João Ribeiro in the northeast and Ponta do Morro Branco in the west. To the northwest it opens towards the Canal de São Vicente, the channel between the islands São Vicente and Santo Antão. The small rocky islet Ilhéu dos Pássaros lies north of the bay. Port facilities The port is owned and operated by ENAPOR, the Cape Verdean port authority. Germano Almeida
Germano Almeida (; born 31 July 1945) is a Cape Verdean author and lawyer. Biography Born on the Cape Verdean island Boa Vista, Almeida studied law at the University of Lisbon and currently practices in Mindelo. His novels have been translated into several languages. He married Sam Stewart in 1970. Almeida founded the literary magazine ''Ponto & Vírgula'' (1983-87) and ''Aguaviva''. In 1989 he founded the Ilhéu Editora publishing house and has since published 16 books (nine novels). Published works His first work was ''O dia das calças roladas'' which was about an account of a strike on the island of Santo Antão, it was first written in 1982 and was published in 1983. He wrote the novel ''The Last Will and Testament of Senhor da Silva Araújo'' which was about businessman turned philanthropist who leaves his fortune to his illegitimate daughter. As independence comes he is shown up to be a relic of colonialism. A motion picture would be made about the novel in 1997 ...
