Laeken Cemetery
Laeken Cemetery (french: Cimetière de Laeken, nl, Begraafplaats van Laken) in Brussels, Belgium, is the city's oldest cemetery still in function and the resting place of the Belgian Royal Family. It is known as the ''Belgian Père Lachaise'', after Paris' notorious cemetery, because it is the burial place of the rich and the famous and for the abundance of its funerary heritage. Description The installation of the Belgian Royal Family in 1831 and the burial of Queen Louise in 1850 contributed to the appeal of Laeken. The cemetery houses very fine examples of 19th-century funerary art and also features an original bronze cast of Auguste Rodin's ''Thinker'', purchased in 1927 by the antiquarian and art collector Josef Dillen to use as his own memorial. Brussels Cemetery (french: Cimetière de Bruxelles, nl, Begraafplaats van Brussel) is a cemetery belonging to the City of Brussels in Brussels, Belgium. Located in the neighbouring municipality of Evere, rather than in the City of Brussels proper, it is adjacent to Schaerbeek Cemetery and Evere Cemetery, but should not be confused with either. Augustus Van Dievoet (, Latin: Augustus Divutius, French: Auguste, 3 May 180331 October 1865) was a Belgian legal historian and Supreme Court advocate. His son, Jules Van Dievoet, also a Supreme Court advocate, married Marguerite Anspach (1852-1934), the daughter of Jules Anspach, who served as burgomaster of Brussels in 1863–1879. Léon Suys
Léon-Pierre Suys (; ; (14 June 1823 – 5 May 1887) was a Belgian architect. Suys's father Tilman-François Suys was the architect of King Leopold I, and the cofounder of the Belgian Royal Commission of Sites and Monuments, of which his friend François-Joseph Navez was also a member. Navez often used the young Léon as a model for his paintings, including ''Jeune garçon songeur'' (1831) and ''Léon Suys et ses deux sœurs''. Léon Suys was the author, in 1865, of the plans to cover and divert the Senne (Zenne) river in Brussels, a defining event in the history of the city. Louis Joseph Seutin (18 October 1793 – 29 January 1862) was a Belgian doctor, surgeon and professor at the Université Libre de Bruxelles. Louis Joseph Ghislain Seutin born in Nivelles, he studied medicine and took part in the Battle of Waterloo as a doctor. After the Belgian Revolution in 1830, he became the personal doctor of king Leopold I and Head Doctor of the Belgian army. He was later made a baron for his services. He became Head Surgeon of St. Peters Hospital and a professor of surgery in 1834. He invented the use of starched bandages. Joseph Poelaert (21 March 1817 – 3 November 1879) was a Belgian architect. He was entrusted with important projects in Brussels, such as Saint Catherine's Church, the Church of Our Lady of Laeken, the Congress Column, the Royal Theatre of la Monnaie and above all, the Palace of Justice. Guillaume Geefs (10 September 1805 – 19 January 1883), also Willem Geefs, was a Belgian sculptor. Although known primarily for his monumental works and public portraits of statesmen and nationalist figures, he also explored mythological subject matter, often with an erotic theme.
