Augustus Van Dievoet
Augustus Van Dievoet (, Latin: Augustus Divutius, French: Auguste, 3 May 180331 October 1865) was a Belgian legal historian and Supreme Court advocate. His son, Jules Van Dievoet, also a Supreme Court advocate, married Marguerite Anspach (1852-1934), the daughter of Jules Anspach, who served as burgomaster of Brussels in 1863–1879. Biography Augustus Van Dievoet studied at the Imperial Lyceum of Brussels (''Lycée Imperial de Bruxelles''). Van Dievoet demonstrated an exceptional capacity for academic work, excelling in his study of humanities and winning numerous prizes in Latin and Greek humanities at the College. He went on to study law at the State University of Louvain, where he received his doctorate in law on 24 March 1827. Van Dievoet was called to the bar on 7 April 1827 and became a member of the Bar Association between 1838 and 1848. Jean-Joseph Raepsaet
Jean-Joseph Raepsaet (29 December 1750 in Oudenaarde – 19 February 1832) was a Belgian politician and historian. Biography Jean-Joseph Raepsaet was born to a family that had grown from rural civil servants in the south-east of the County of Flanders to the highest ranks of society. He was the grandson of Jan Arent Raepsaet (1680-1752), scribe of Heestert, and Agnes Valcke. His father, Jan Raepsaet (died 1774) was the lawyer and clerk of the Castellany of Oudenaarde, and his mother was Maria Joanna Vispoel, daughter of the Grand Pensionary of Oudenaarde. Raepsaet went to school in Oudenaarde and high school in Menen and Bergen. He studied philosophy and law at the University of Louvain, where he received his degree in law on 17 December 1772. A month later, on 16 January 1773, he became a lawyer at the Council of Flanders. He settled down in his hometown and became clerk of the chancellery. Charles Terlinden (1878—1972) was a Belgian historian, professor at the Catholic University of Louvain, and papal chamberlain.Henri Haag, "Terlinden, Charles", ''Nouvelle Biographie Nationale''vol. 3(Brussels, 1994), 323-325. Life Terlinden was born in Schaerbeek on 6 July 1878. He studied law at Saint-Louis University Faculty in Brussels, and at the Faculty of Law of the Catholic University of Louvain. After completing a doctorate in law, he began historical studies under Alfred Cauchie, with a thesis on Pope Clement IX and the War of Candia (1904). He followed this in 1906 with a second thesis on William I of the Netherlands and the Catholic Church in Belgium, making him a triple doctor. He was called up in 1914 and saw action at Melle. After the war he was a historical adviser to the Belgian delegation to the Paris Peace Conference, and in the aftermath was vocally critical of the way that Austria-Hungary had been dismembered.
