Lachute
Lachute () is a town in southwest Quebec, Canada, northwest of Montreal, on the Rivière du Nord, a tributary of the Ottawa River, and west of Mirabel International Airport. It is located on Autoroute 50, at the junctions of Quebec Provincial Highways Route 148, Route 158, and Secondary Highways 327 and 329. Lachute is the seat of Argenteuil Regional County Municipality, and is served by the Lachute Airport. Its major industries include paper mills and lumber. The population is about 14,000 people. History Originally in the 17th century, "La Chute" identified a cataract or falls on the North River (''Rivière du Nord'') located about upstream from its confluence with the Ottawa River. Argenteuil Regional County Municipality
Argenteuil is a regional county municipality located in the Laurentides region of Quebec, Canada. Its seat is Lachute. History In 1682, Charles-Joseph d'Ailleboust was granted by Louis de Buade de Frontenac, Governor General of New France, a domain of of land. This fiefdom was bounded by the Ottawa River to the south, a line through the center of the hamlet of Carillon in the west and Clear Lake (''Lac Clair'') to the north. Since Ailleboust already owned a house in Argenteuil near Paris, he called his domain Argenteuil Seigneury. In 1697, the Lord of Ailleboust and his wife Catherine Le Gardeur sold their seigneury to their son Pierre d'Ailleboust d'Argenteuil. Subsequently over the years, the fiefdom was held by Pierre-Louis Panet, and then by Major Murray. After the conquest of New France by the British in 1759 during the Seven Years' War, the British implemented their laws, but maintained certain French seigneurial rights. Route 329 is a provincial highway in the Laurentides and Lanaudière regions of Quebec, serving a large portion of the popular tourist area as well as numerous lakes and cottage areas in the Middle and Upper Laurentians. Beginning at the junction of Route 148 just east of Lachute, it ends 93 kilometers further north at the junction of Route 125 in Saint-Donat, just south of Mont-Tremblant National Park. Quebec Autoroute 50
Autoroute 50 (Autoroute de l'Outaouais) is an Autoroute in western Quebec, Canada. It links Canada's National Capital Region (Gatineau) and the Greater Montreal area ( Mirabel). Until November 2012, there were two distinct sections of A-50: one section running eastward from Hull and the other westward from Mirabel. The gap in the highway was filled on November 26, 2012, and the two-lane freeway opened for traffic on the full length. The route provides an east-west freeway alternative to Route 148 that does not require travelling in Ontario, unlike the main Trans-Canada Highway route ( A-40 / Hwy 417). Route 158 is an east-west arterial road running between Lachute and Berthierville, north of the Ottawa and Saint Lawrence rivers, in the Laurentides region. It runs parallel to Autoroute 50 from Lachute to Autoroute 15 near Mirabel Airport, also passing through Joliette. A section of the 158 in Joliette is a four-lane short freeway and was intended to be part of an eastern extension of A-50 towards A-40 in Berthierville by-passing several accident-prone sections of Highway 158. In Berthierville, it junctions with Autoroute 40 and Route 138 and ends on the island municipality of Saint-Ignace-de-Loyola at the Saint Lawrence River, which can be crossed by car ferry to Route 132 in Sorel-Tracy. Quebec Route 327
Route 327 is a provincial highway located in the Laurentides region of Quebec. The 90-kilometer highway runs from St-André-d'Argenteuil at the junction of Route 344 to Mont-Tremblant just west of the Provincial Park of the same name. The route serves as the main connection between Argenteuil county and the popular tourist region of the Upper Laurentides. In Lachute it is briefly concurrent with Highway 148 (across a bridge). Route 148 is an east-west highway in Quebec, Canada. It runs from junction of Autoroute 13 and Autoroute 440 in Laval in the Montreal region to the Ontario-Quebec border in L'Isle-aux-Allumettes in western Quebec. For most of its length, Route 148 follows the north shore of the Ottawa River where it acted as the principal route between communities in the Outaouais region until the completion of Autoroute 50 in 2012. Laurentides
The Laurentides () is a region of Quebec. While it is often called the Laurentians in English, the region includes only part of the Laurentian mountains. It has a total land area of and its population was 589,400 inhabitants as of the 2016 Census. The area is the traditional territory of the Algonquin First Nation. French Canadians began settlement in the first half of the 19th century, establishing an agricultural presence throughout the valleys. During the 20th century, the area also became a popular tourist destination, based on a cottage and lake culture in the summer, and a downhill and cross-country ski culture in the winter. Ski resorts include Saint-Sauveur and Mont Tremblant. Rivière Du Nord (Laurentides)
Rivière du Nord () is a -long river in the Laurentides region that flows into the Ottawa River. The river begins as the outlet of Lac Brulé where it passes near Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts and flows southeasterly. Quebec Autoroute 15 follows the course of the Rivière du Nord valley north of Montréal providing access to many cottages and vacation homes. At Saint-Jérôme, the river turns southwesterly where it continues to its mouth on the left bank of the Ottawa River. In addition to Saint-Jérôme, towns built along the Rivière du Nord's banks include Val-David, Val-Morin, Saint-Adèle, Prévost, and Lachute.
