Lachsbach
The Lachsbach, also called the Rathmannsdorfer Bach, is a river of Saxony, Germany. It is the largest, right-hand tributary of the Elbe in Saxon Switzerland. Geography The Lachsbach is formed by the merger of its headstreams, the Sebnitz (river), Sebnitz (left, about half the size) and Polenz (river), Polenz (right, rather longer) in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains near Porschdorf. The combined confluence section of the two rivers was first recorded in 1543 as ''die beyde wasser'' ("the two waters"), a description no longer common today. After only , the Lachsbach empties into the Elbe above Prossen's winter port near Wendischfähre. Sebnitz (river)
The Sebnitz ( cs, Sebnice) is the left, larger headstream of the Lachsbach and runs through both the Czech Republic as well as the German state of Saxony. The upper section in the Czech Republic is known as ''Vilémovský potok'' in Czech and ''Wölmsdorfer Bach'' in German. Geography The Sebnitz rises in the Šluknov Hook in a broad valley between the 608-metre-high Hrazený (''Pirsken'') and the 593-metre-high Plešný (''Plissenberg''), 2 kilometres northwest of the village of Brtníky (''Zeidler''). The stream flows in a northwesterly direction to Velký Šenov (''Groß Schönau''), where it swings southwest and follows the valley of Šenov stream ( cz, Šenovský potok), passing between Vilémov (german: Wölmsdorf) and Mikulášovice. Polenz (river)
The Polenz is the right-hand, smaller headstream of the Lachsbach in the German state of Saxony. Its lower course flows through the western Elbe Sandstone Mountains in a canyon-like valley. Geography The Polenz rises from nine springs on the German-Czech border between the villages of Langburkersdorf and (Neudörfel). The springs are located southwest of the 461 m high Roubený (Raupenberg) mainly on German territory and unite at a height of 363 m above sea level. The upper reaches of the Polenz form the natural boundary between the forest land and the Saxon Switzerland. Saxon Switzerland
Saxon Switzerland (german: Sächsische Schweiz) is a hilly climbing area and national park around the Elbe valley south-east of Dresden in Saxony, Germany. Together with the Bohemian Switzerland in the Czech Republic it forms the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. Saxon Switzerland alone has some 1,000 climbing peaks, as well as several hollows. Rathmannsdorf
Rathmannsdorf is a township in the Saxon district of Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge. Rathmannsdorf is down the Elbe from Bad Schandau. Geography The township's highest point is a plateau near Bad Schandau 200 meters above sea level, with the lowest point 120 meters above sea level along the Elbe. Elbe
The Elbe (; cs, Labe ; nds, Ilv or ''Elv''; Upper and dsb, Łobjo) is one of the major rivers of Central Europe. It rises in the Giant Mountains of the northern Czech Republic before traversing much of Bohemia (western half of the Czech Republic), then Germany and flowing into the North Sea at Cuxhaven, northwest of Hamburg. Elbe Sandstone Mountains
The Elbe Sandstone Mountains, also called the Elbe Sandstone Highlands (german: Elbsandsteingebirge; cs, Děčinská vrchovina), are a mountain range straddling the border between the state of Saxony in southeastern Germany and the North Bohemian region of the Czech Republic, with about three-quarters of the area lying on the German side. In both countries, core parts of the mountain range have been declared a national park. The name derives from the sandstone which was carved by erosion. Bad Schandau (; hsb, Žandow) is a spa town in Germany, in the Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge district of Saxony. It is situated on the right bank of the Elbe, at the mouth of the valley of the Kirnitzsch and in the area often described as Saxon Switzerland. Geography Bad Schandau lies east of the Elbe right on the edge of the Saxon Switzerland National Park in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains; the National Park Centre is located in the town.
