Lac La Ronge
Lac la Ronge is a glacial lake in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. It is the fifth largest lake in the province and is approximately north of Prince Albert, on the edge of the Canadian Shield. La Ronge, Air Ronge, and the Lac La Ronge First Nation are on the western shore. The lake is a popular vacation spot. Recreational activities include fishing, boating, canoeing, hiking, and camping. Recreation and access Lac La Ronge Provincial Park extends around the lake on three sides, starting at La Ronge and ending along the east shore. The park contains four RV parks, two of which are on the west shore of the lake, one is in the town of Missinipe (Missinipe is the Woodland Cree name for the Churchill River which is on the south-west shore of Otter Lake, which flows through the north side of the park), and the fourth one is on the east shore of Nemeiben Lake. Nistowiak Falls
Nistowiak Falls, at , is one of the highest waterfalls in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. The falls are on the Rapid River, which flows north from Iskwatikan Lake into Nistowiak Lake on the Churchill River. Nistowiak is a Cree word referring to the convergence of waters. Access The closest access is from the Stanley Mission Indian reserve #157, part of the La Ronge Indian Band. Stanley Mission is at the north end of Highway 915, which connects via Highway 102 to Highway 2 in La Ronge. From Stanley Mission, it is about east by water on the Churchill River. Nemeiben Lake
Nemeiben Lake is a hamlet in north central SaskatchewanCanada, located on Nemeiben Lake. Part of the lake including the hamlet is located within the Lac La Ronge Provincial Park. It is 2 km from Lac la Ronge and 24 km from the town of La Ronge. Nemeiben Lake is a popular camping destination, with a campground that is set in a coniferous forest on the shore of the lake. Otter Lake (Saskatchewan)
Otter Lake is a lake in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. It is located north of La Ronge and is accessible from Highway 102. The lake is part of the Churchill River system. The Churchill River runs through the lake. It is approximately 10 miles long and 9 miles at its widest point. Access The hamlet of Missinipe is located on the western shore of Otter Lake while Grandmother's Bay Indian reserve is located on the north shore of the lake. The lake is on the north side of Lac La Ronge Provincial Park and one of the park's four RV parks is located on the east shore. Two of the streets in Missinipe are part of the RV park. Churchill River (Hudson Bay)
The Churchill River () is a major river in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, Canada. From the head of the Churchill Lake it is long. It was named after John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough and governor of the Hudson's Bay Company from 1685 to 1691. The Cree name for the river is ''Missinipi'', meaning "big waters". The Denesuline name for the river is ''des nëdhë́'', meaning "Great River". The river is located entirely within the Canadian Shield. Woodland Cree
The ''Saāwithiniwak'' or Woodland Cree, are a Cree people, calling themselves Nîhithaw in their own dialect of the language. They are the largest indigenous group in northern Alberta and are an Algonquian people. Prior to the 18th century, their territory extended west of Hudson Bay, as far north as Churchill. Although in western Northern Saskatchewan and Manitoba, by the 18th century, they acted as middlemen in trade with western tribes. After acquiring guns through trade, they greatly expanded their territory and drove other tribes further west and north. Missinipe (Woodland Cree: ''Misi-nipiy'' or ''Mahttawi-sipiy''), meaning "big water" or "difficult river", is a northern settlement in northern Saskatchewan located in Treaty 10 territory and along the western shore of Otter Lake. Lac La Ronge Provincial Park
Lac La Ronge Provincial Park is located in the boreal forest of the north central part of the Canadian province of Saskatchewan within the Canadian Shield. Situated in the Churchill River system, this provincial park has close to 100 lakes and more than 30 canoe routes, many of which follow old fur trade routes. Summer activities include camping, hiking, boating, fishing, and swimming. In the winter, there's cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and ice fishing. Saskatchewan's highest waterfall is in the park. Lac La Ronge Island
Lac is the resinous secretion of a number of species of lac insects, of which the most commonly cultivated is ''Kerria lacca''. Cultivation begins when a farmer gets a stick that contains eggs ready to hatch and ties it to the tree to be infested. Thousands of lac insects colonize the branches of the host trees and secrete the resinous pigment. The coated branches of the host trees are cut and harvested as sticklac. The harvested sticklac is crushed and sieved to remove impurities. The sieved material is then repeatedly washed to remove insect parts and other material. The resulting product is known as seedlac. The prefix ''seed'' refers to its pellet shape. Seedlac, which still contains 3–5% impurity, is processed into shellac by heat treatment or solvent extraction.
