La Roque-Sainte-Marguerite
La Roque-Sainte-Marguerite (; oc, La Ròca) is a commune in the Aveyron department in southern France. Lying deep in the scenic Dourbie gorge, the commune absorbed the formerly separate commune of St Verin in 1940, and it also incorporates the village of Pierrefiche du Larzac, which lies much higher on the ''Causse du Larzac'' (Larzac Plateau), at about 670 metres above sea level. The village lies about east of Millau. The main industry for the residents who still work locally is tourism: the most visited site in Aveyron for tourists, Le Chaos de Montpellier-le-Vieux, is within its bounds. But most working residents commute into Millau. On the Causse du Larzac, the villagers of Pierrefiche were shepherds, bringing their ewes' milk to the village dairy to make Roquefort cheese. John Augustus Stone (December 15, 1801 – June 1, 1834) was an American actor, dramatist, and playwright, best known as the author of ''Metamora; or, The Last of the Wampanoags''. Biography He appeared on the New York stage beginning in 1822. He wrote ''Metamora'', as a vehicle for Edwin Forrest, who offered as a prize $500 and half of the proceeds from the third night. William Cullen Bryant headed a committee which chose Stone's play as the best of 14 submitted. The play, first produced in 1829, told the life of King Philip. He married Mrs. Amelia Greene Legge, an actress. She later married Nathaniel Harrington Bannister. Jean de la Roque (1661 – December 8, 1745) was a French traveller and journalist born in Marseille. He was the son of Pierre de la Roque, a merchant who his remembered for introducing coffee to Marseille in 1644, and the brother of Antoine de la Roque (1672-1744), a noted journalist with whom he collaborated with on the magazine ''Mercure de France''. Jean de la Roque was the author of ''Voyage en Syrie et au mont Liban'' (1722), a book written about his experiences in the Levant, which he first visited in 1689. Here he describes the customs of the various regional tribes, and provides information on the ruins at Baalbek. In 1708-10 and 1711-13 he participated on two expeditions to the Arabian peninsula, and afterwards published his Arabian experiences in a work called ''Voyage dans l’Arabie heureuse'' (1716). François De La Rocque
François de La Rocque (; 6 October 1885 – 28 April 1946) was the leader of the French right-wing league the Croix de Feu from 1930 to 1936 before he formed the more moderate nationalist French Social Party (1936–1940), which has been described by several historians, such as René Rémond and Michel Winock, as a precursor of Gaullism. Early life La Roque was born on 6 October 1885 in Lorient, Brittany, the third son of a family from Haute-Auvergne. His parents were General Raymond de La Rocque, commander of the artillery defending the Lorient Naval Base, and Anne Sollier. He entered Saint Cyr Military Academy in 1905 in a class known as "Promotion la Dernière du Vieux Bahut". He graduated in 1907 and was posted to Algeria and the edge of the Sahara and in 1912 to Lunéville. The next year, he was called to Morocco by General Hubert Lyautey.
