La Pérouse (crater)
La Pérouse is a Lunar craters, lunar impact crater that is located near the eastern limb of the Moon. It lies northwest of the larger crater Ansgarius (crater), Ansgarius, and to the east of Kapteyn (crater), Kapteyn. This crater appears foreshortened due to its location, but the rim is nearly circular when viewed from orbit. The rim of La Pérouse is not significantly worn by subsequent impacts, and its features are well-defined. wiktionary:terrace, Terraces line much of the inner wall, and there is a small outer wikt:rampart, rampart. There are also small outward bulges in the rim to the south-southeast and south-southwest. Within the interior floor is a central ridge offset to the northeast of the midpoint, and this formation is somewhat elongated to the southeast. Apollo 15
Apollo 15 (July 26August 7, 1971) was the ninth crewed mission in the Apollo program and the fourth Moon landing. Ray System
In planetary geology, a ray system comprises radial streaks of fine '' ejecta'' thrown out during the formation of an impact crater, looking somewhat like many thin spokes coming from the hub of a wheel. The rays may extend for lengths up to several times the diameter of their originating crater, and are often accompanied by small secondary craters formed by larger chunks of ejecta. Ray systems have been identified on the Moon, Earth ( Kamil Crater), Mercury, and some moons of the outer planets. Originally it was thought that they existed only on planets or moons lacking an atmosphere, but more recently they have been identified on Mars in infrared images taken from orbit by '' 2001 Mars Odyssey''s thermal imager.
