La Plaine is a parliamentary electoral district in Dominica. It includes the areas of Boetica, Delices and La Plaine. It came into effect in time for the 1975 Dominican general election. It has been represented by Cassandra Williams of the Dominica Labour Party since the 2022 general election. The House of Assembly is the legislature of Dominica. It is established by Chapter III of the Constitution of Dominica, and together with the President of Dominica constitutes Dominica's Parliament. The House is unicameral, and consists of twenty-one Representatives, nine senators, and the Attorney General as an '' ex officio'' member. The Speaker of the House becomes the thirty-second member if chosen from outside the membership of the House. Representatives are directly elected in single-member constituencies using the simple-majority (or first-past-the-post) system for a term of five years. The Representatives in turn decide whether the senators are to be elected by their vote, or appointed. Kent Edwards (born — died August 7, 1993) was an American musical theatre actor and nightclub singer of the 1940s who is best remembered for portraying Einar in the original production of ''Song of Norway'' at the Los Angeles Civic Light Opera, on Broadway, and in the 1946-1947 national tour. General elections were held in Dominica on 6 December 2019. The elections were constitutionally due by March 2020, but had been widely expected to take place before the end of 2019. The result was a landslide victory for the ruling Dominica Labour Party, which won 18 of the 21 elected seats, gaining three seats. Ronald Green (Dominican Politician)
Ronald Milner Green is a Dominican politician who has served as the head of the United Workers' Party (UWP). In that capacity, Green was also the Leader of the Opposition of Dominica from 2005 until 2009, when he lost his seat in the House of Assembly in the general election. Green is now serving in the Assembly as an appointed senator. Career Green holds a B.S. Degree in Health and Physical Education from the City College of New York, an MA in Education from Manhattan College awarded in 1962 in addition to pre-doctoral level studies at Columbia University. He was employed by various local NGOs before he first entered Parliament as MP for the La Plaine constituency in the 1995 general election. Henckell Lochinvar Christian MBE (1910 – 1998) was a Dominican politician from the Dominica Labour Party. Christian studied studied sociology at London University. He worked as a teacher and later as a social worker. Christian was elected to the House of Assembly of Dominica in 1970 and 1975.
