La Cuccagna
''La cuccagna'', internationally released as ''A Girl... and a Million'', is a 1962 Italian drama film directed by Luciano Salce. In 2008 it was restored and shown as part of the retrospective "Questi fantasmi: Cinema italiano ritrovato" at the 65th Venice International Film Festival. Plot Rossella, a beautiful young girl from a working-class family, looks for a job every day, but is disappointed to not be able to find serious employment. She meets Giuliano, a young student, who, for his part, has the will to avoid finding a job at any cost. Luciano Salce (25 September 1922 – 17 December 1989) was an Italian film director, comedian, tv host, producer, actor and lyricist. His 1962 film ''Le pillole di Ercole'' was shown as part of a retrospective on Italian comedy at the 67th Venice International Film Festival. As a writer of pop music, he used the pseudonym Pilantra. During World War II, he was a prisoner in Germany. He later worked for several years in Brazil. Franco Abbina (also credited as Franco Abbine or Franco Abbiana, born March 31, 1934, in Rome) is an Italian actor, active until the first half of the 1970s. Biography Born into a family of Spanish descent, before entering the acting field, Abbina studied economics and music. Ugo Tognazzi (23 March 1922 – 27 October 1990) was an Italian actor, director, and screenwriter. Early life Tognazzi was born in Cremona, in northern Italy but spent his youth in various localities as his father was a travelling clerk for an insurance company. After his return to his native city in 1936, he worked in a cured meats production plant where he achieved the position of accountant. During World War II, he was inducted into the Army and returned home after the Armistice of 8 September 1943, and joined the Brigate Nere for a while. His passion for theater and acting dates from his early years, and also during the conflict he organized shows for his fellow soldiers. In 1945, he moved to Milan, where he was enrolled in the theatrical company led by Wanda Osiris. A few years later, he formed his own successful musical revue company.
