Low-temperature Polycrystalline Silicon
Low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) is polycrystalline silicon that has been synthesized at relatively low temperatures (~650 °C and lower) compared to in traditional methods (above 900 °C). LTPS is important for display industries, since the use of large glass panels prohibits exposure to deformative high temperatures. More specifically, the use of polycrystalline silicon in thin-film transistors (LTPS-TFT) has high potential for large-scale production of electronic devices like flat panel LCD displays or image sensors. Development of polycrystalline silicon Polycrystalline silicon (p-Si) is a pure and conductive form of the element composed of many crystallites, or grains of highly ordered crystal lattice. In 1984, studies showed that amorphous silicon (a-Si) is an excellent precursor for forming p-Si films with stable structures and low surface roughness. Silicon film is synthesized by low-pressure chemical vapor deposition (LPCVD) to minimize surface ...

Borexino
Borexino is a particle physics Particle physics or high energy physics is the study of fundamental particles and forces that constitute matter and radiation. The fundamental particles in the universe are classified in the Standard Model as fermions (matter particles) an ... experiment to study low energy (sub-MeV) solar neutrinos. The detector is the world's most radio-pure liquid Scintillation counter, scintillator calorimeter. It is placed within a stainless steel sphere which holds the photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) used as signal detectors and is shielded by a water tank to protect it against external radiation and tag incoming Cosmic ray, cosmic muons that manage to penetrate the overburden of the mountain above. The primary aim of the experiment is to make a precise measurement of the individual neutrino fluxes from the Sun and compare them to the Standard solar model predictions. This will allow scientists to test and to further understand the functioning of the Sun ...

Local Transport Plan
{{Unreferenced, date=April 2008 Local transport plans, divided into full local transport plans (LTP) and local implementation plans for transport (LIP) are an important part of transport planning in England. Strategic transport authorities (county councils, unitary authorities, passenger transport authorities and London Borough councils), are expected to prepare them as forward-looking plans covering a number of years (typically five years), and present them to the Department for Transport (DfT). Different arrangements apply to Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland as transport is a devolved matter. LTPs must: * Outline the current baseline with regard to transport, accessibility and pollution * Set out challenging but achievable objectives * Set out the programme for achieving these objectives * Outline 'bids' for funding from the DfT Once an LTP is prepared it is submitted to the Secretary of State for Transport (England only); in London, the related LIP is submitted to the May ...

Let The Peoples Sing
''Let the Peoples Sing'' (known until 1964 as ''Let the People Sing'') is an international choral competition currently organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). The final, encompassing three categories and around ten choirs, is offered as a live broadcast to all EBU members. The Silver Rose Bowl is awarded to the best choir in the competition. History The competition was first organised by BBC Radio in 1957, originally as a national contest for amateur British choirs under the title '' Let the People Sing'', and ran until 1982 as a weekly series each year. The final round of the first competition was broadcast in the Light Programme on 23 April 1957 and was followed four days later by a special concert relayed from the Royal Albert Hall. In the two subsequent years (1958–59) the final concert was held at the Royal Festival Hall. The contest also led to new choral works being commissioned. In 1965 the annual competition became an international one, with participation ...
