The Ligue de Hockey Junior du Québec (LHJQ) or Quebec Junior Hockey League (QJHL) is a Hockey Québec Canadian Junior A ice hockey league and is a member of Hockey Canada and the Canadian Junior Hockey League. The winner of the QJHL playoffs competes for the Fred Page Cup against the winners of the Central Junior A Hockey League and the Maritime Hockey League and the host team, which is on a three-year cycle between the MHL, CJHL and LHJQ. The winner of the Fred Page Cup then moves on to compete for the Centennial Cup. History The Quebec Junior Hockey League is an offshoot of the Quebec Junior A Hockey League that lasted from 1972 to 1982. Founded in 1988, the QJHL has been a rather strong league, with three Central Canadian Champions (Dudley Hewitt Cup) in its early years: the Longueuil Sieurs in 1990 and the Chateauguay Elites in 1993 and 1994. Quebec Junior A Hockey League
The Quebec Junior A Hockey League (QJAHL) was a Canadian junior ice hockey league based in Quebec that operated from 1972 until 1982. The QJAHL was a member of Hockey Quebec and the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association and was eligible for the Dudley Hewitt Cup and Centennial Cup. History The Quebec Junior A Hockey League was formed in 1972 to give the Province of Quebec an entry in the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association's Centennial Cup playoffs. Luc Tardif finished the 1972–73 season as the top scorer and most valuable player in the east division of the QJAHL. In 1982, the QJAHL folded. During the final 1981-1982 season, there were only four teams left in the league: the Joliette Cyclones, the Pierrefonds Pirates, the St. Eustache Patriotes and the La Prairie Flames. Quebec would not see Junior "A" hockey again until the Black Lake Miners jumped from Junior "B" into the 1988 Dudley Hewitt Cup playoffs. Chambly Forts
The Chambly Forts are a Canadian Junior ice hockey team from Chambly, Quebec, Canada. On April 29, 2015, a consortium purchased the Kahnawake Condors and transferred the franchise to Chambly for the 2015-2016 season. At the time of relocation the franchise had not yet claimed a regular season division nor league title and had failed to advance beyond the quarterfinal round in playoff competition. After the first 3 seasons as the Forts their final standings in regular season and playoff rounds had improved to quarter final in 2017-18 season. Les Cougars Du Collège Champlain
The Sherbrooke Cougars of Collège Champlain are a junior ice hockey team from Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada. They were part of the Quebec Junior AAA Hockey League from 2002 to 2015. History The Champlain Cougars were founded in the 1970s, and played in collegiate leagues until 2002, when they joined the QJAAAHL in 2002. The team played its first season as the Lennoxville Cougars, using the W.B. Scott Arena on the Bishop's University campus as their home arena, before moving to Sherbrooke in 2003 to fill in for the departed Sherbrooke Castors who relocated to Lewiston, Maine. In 2012, the Cougars moved out of the Palais des Sports to make way for the Sherbrooke Phoenix. The team now plays in the Thibault GM Complex. In 2002-03, the Cougars won the Napa Cup as LHJAAAQ champions. They defeated the Longueuil College Francais in the finals. Lachine Maroons
Les Maroons de Lachine were a Canadian Junior ice hockey team from Lachine, Quebec, Canada. It started as a franchise in the Metropolitaine leagues in 1953 in both the Junior A and Junior B divisions. Later, in 1995, the Pierrefonds Lions of the Quebec Junior A league moved to Lachine and resumed use of the name. Following the 2014–15 season the Maroon franchise was sold to investors of the Gatineau Mustangs. The Mustangs were former members of the Eastern Ontario Junior B Hockey League. This league re-organized and re-branded itself as the Central Canada Hockey League Tier 2 and eliminated 6 teams, one of which was the Gatineau Mustangs. Gatineau Flames
The Gatineau Flames are a Canadian junior ice hockey team based in Buckingham, Quebec. The team is a member of the Quebec Junior Hockey League, but was a member of the Eastern Ontario Junior Hockey League for decades, ending in 2015. History Originally known as the Voisins de Papineau (Papineau Neighbours), the Neighbours lost in the 1999 final and won the 2000 Eastern Ontario Junior "B" title despite being from the Province of Quebec. In 2002, the team became the Buckingham Mustangs. In 2003, the team expanded their name by becoming the Gatineau Mustangs. In 2006, the Mustangs hosted the 2006 Coupe Dodge, the Hockey Quebec Junior "AA" championships. Coming in the Mustangs defeated Les Rebels de Trois-Pistoles 4-3, and then beat the Express de Suroît 6-5. In the first elimination round the Mustangs were defeated by the eventual finalist, Marquis de Jonquière, in an 8-5 heart breaker.
