Panama City
Panama City ( es, Ciudad de Panamá, links=no; ), also known as Panama (or Panamá in Spanish), is the capital and largest city of Panama. Tour De Las Américas
The Tour de las Américas (TLA) was the principal men's professional golf tour throughout Latin America and the Caribbean from 2000 through to 2012 when it was superseded by PGA Tour Latinoamérica. History Top level tournament golf in Latin America has had an unstable history. Some of the national open championships in the region are long established, but they did not traditionally form a coherent tour. Challenge Tour
The Challenge Tour is the second-tier men's professional golf tour in Europe. It is operated by the PGA European Tour and, as with on the main European Tour and the European Senior Tour, some of the events are played outside Europe. History The tour was introduced in 1986 and was initially called the ''Satellite Tour''. The Order of Merit was introduced in 1989, with the top five players on it winning membership of the European Tour for the following season. The following year the tour was renamed the Challenge Tour. Up to 1993 the Challenge Tour rankings were based on each player's best several results, but since 1994 it has been a straightforward money list, with all results counting. Players who are successful on the Challenge Tour qualify for membership of the European Tour the following year. Twenty players earn direct promotion to the European Tour. Stroke Play
Stroke play, also known as medal play, is a scoring system in the sport of golf in which the total number of strokes is counted over one or more rounds of 18 holes. In stroke play, the winner is the player who has taken the fewest strokes over the course of the round, or rounds. Although most professional tournaments are played using the stroke play scoring system, some notable exceptions exist. In match play, the player, or team, earns a point for each hole in which they have bested their opponents. Miguel Fernández (golfer)
Miguel Fernández (born 10 April 1962) is an Argentinian professional golfer. Fernández was born in Resistencia, Chaco. He worked as a caddie in Chaco, before turning professional in 1980. Fernández won the Argentine Tour Order of Merit in 1987. He won the Argentine Open in 1987 and 1988, having previously finished second in 1986. In addition to several victories on the Tour de las Americas, he has also been second in the TLA Players Championship in 2003 and 2006. Fernández played on the European Tour in 1991, finishing 131st on the Order of Merit with a best finish of tied 7th in the Open de Baleares. The same year, he also played in the British Open at Birkdale. Victory in the Panama Masters in 2004, gave him the chance to return to Europe to play on the Challenge Tour. However, he did not manage to repeat that performance, as he failed to register another top 30 finish on his way to 75th on the money list. Mark Pilkington (golfer)
Mark Pilkington (born 17 March 1978) is a Welsh professional golfer. Career Pilkington was born in Bangor, Gwynedd. He enjoyed a successful amateur career, representing Wales at all levels, and highlighted by winning the Welsh Amateur Championship in 1998. He turned professional later that year, immediately after winning a place on the European Tour at final qualifying school. Pilkington had an unsuccessful rookie season on the European Tour in 1999, and played on the Challenge Tour the following season after failing to regain his card at qualifying school. He followed up a consistent Challenge Tour season with success at qualifying school to return to the top level for 2001. He managed to retain his European Tour card by finishing inside the top 100 on the Order of Merit in both 2001 and 2002, but his form dipped in 2003 and he dropped back down to the second tier for 2004. James Hepworth
James Hepworth (born 10 June 1975) is an English professional golfer. Hepworth was born in Harrogate, Yorkshire. He turned professional in 1997 and played on the Challenge Tour in 1999–2003, 2005–2006, 2008 and 2011. He earned two wins at that level, at the 2003 American Express Los Encinos Open and the 2006 Apulia San Domenico Grand Final.
