The ''London Daily News'' was a short-lived London newspaper owned by Robert Maxwell. It was published from 24 February to 23 July 1987. History The ''London Daily News'' was intended to be a "24-hour" paper challenging the local dominance of the ''Evening Standard''. "For the city that never sleeps, the paper that never stops", ran the promotional slogan. The ''Standard''’s owners, Associated Newspapers, responded by reviving the ''Evening News'' at a lower price to squeeze the ''London Daily News'' out of the market. A price war ensued finishing with the ''London Daily News'' selling at 10p and the ''Evening News'' at 5p. Maxwell was dismissive when he heard about the cut-price ''Evening News''. "LDN" (shorthand for, and pronounced as, "London") is a song by English singer-songwriter Lily Allen. It was co-written by Future Cut, and features a Colombian porro from the country's Caribbean coast. The song was originally released on limited-edition 7-inch vinyl (500 copies) in the UK on 24 April 2006, accompanied by album track "Knock 'Em Out". It was reissued in September 2006 following the huge success of Allen's first mainstream single "Smile". The re-release peaked at number six on the UK Singles Chart. The song is used in the soundtrack of the film ''The Nanny Diaries'' and in the trailer for ''Happy-Go-Lucky'', and near the end of the Razzie-nominated Disney comedy film ''Old Dogs''. it reached number 30 on ''Rolling Stone''s list of the 100 Best Songs of 2007. Láadan (/ˈlɑ˦ɑˈdɑn/) is a gynocentric constructed language created by Suzette Haden Elgin in 1982 to test the Sapir–Whorf hypothesis, specifically to determine if development of a language aimed at expressing the views of women would shape a culture; a subsidiary hypothesis was that Western natural languages may be better suited for expressing the views of men than women. The language was included in her science fiction ''Native Tongue'' series. Láadan contains a number of words that are used to make unambiguous statements that include how one feels about what one is saying. According to Elgin, this is designed to counter male-centered language's limitations on women, who are forced to respond "I know I said that, but I meant this". Low Dose Naltrexone
Low-dose naltrexone describes the off-label, experimental use of the medication naltrexone at low doses for diseases such as Crohn's disease and multiple sclerosis. Naltrexone is typically prescribed for opioid dependence or alcohol dependence, as it is a strong opioid antagonist. It has been suggested that low-dose naltrexone might operate as an anti-inflammatory agent and therefore could be used to treat some chronic conditions involving immune system dysregulation. Anecdotal reports have suggested that low-dose naltrexone may be effective in treating a wide range of diseases, including cancer, chronic Lyme Disease, chronic fatigue syndrome HIV/AIDS, fibromyalgia patients, arthritis, and immunity for immunosuppressed patients. Day-night Average Sound Level
The day-night average sound level (Ldn or DNL) is the average noise level over a 24-hour period. The noise level measurements between the hours of 10pm and 7am are artificially increased by 10 dB before averaging. This noise is weighted to take into account the decrease in community background noise of 10 dB during this period. There is a similar metric called day-evening-night average sound level (Lden or DENL) commonly used in other countries, or community noise exposure level (CNEL) used in California legislation; that is, the DNL with the addition of an evening period from 7 PM to 10 PM when noise level measurements are boosted 5 dB (or 4.77 dB in the case of CNEL) to account for the approximate decrease in background community noise during this period. In the US, the Federal Aviation Administration has established this measure as a community noise exposure metric to aid airport noise analyses under Federal Aviation Regulation Part 150. Any web resource (like a HTML page) can advertise a receiving endpoint (''inbox'') for notification messages. Messages are expressed in RDF, and can contain arbitrary data. Motivation The web is a decentralized system of web resources, published by multiple organizations and individuals. Web resources, such as web pages and more formally structured linked data, frequently include links to other resources across the web, and may comment or describe them in various ways.
