L. S. Karlsen
Lars Siegfried Karlsen, usually referred to as L. S. Karlsen (14 December 1857 – 1946) was a Norwegian engineer and businessperson. He was born in Tromsø. He took his education at ''Trondhjem Technical School'' in chemistry and mechanics, and studied for one year at the Royal Saxon Polytechnicum (now Dresden University of Technology). He was hired as a manager of Sundnæs Brænderi. In 1888 he was hired as an inspector in the insurance company Forsikringsselskapet Norden. From 1896 to 1897 he was a state controller of liquor and malt production, but from July 1897 to 1933 he was the chief executive of Forsikringsselskapet Norden. In 1916 he entered the first board of the Scandinavian American Assurance Corporation. Sundnes Brenneri
Sundnes Brenneri is a Norway, Norwegian potato processing plant and distillation, distillery located in Inderøy. It produces akvavit, potato chips, potato starch flour and mashed potatoes. The plant was started in 1844, four years before private distillation was banned. It is part of the HOFF Norske Potetindustrier agricultural cooperative. The akvavit production was covered by the import of caraway from Eastern Europe until 1989 when farmers in Inderøy started caraway production. Today half a square kilometer of caraway is produced in the municipality. The potato for the akvavit has always been locally produced. Forsikringsselskapet Norden was a general insurance company based in Norway. It was founded as ''Brandforsikringsselskabet Norden'' on 4 April 1867, and began operating on 2 September the same year. Its first offices were located in ''Karl Johans gate 14''. The main driving forces behind the foundation were Carl Ferdinand Gjerdrum and Jacob Thurmann Ihlen, who became the first chief executive and first chair respectively. Gjerdrum served until 1887 and Ihlen to 1904. The next chief executive was L. S. Karlsen from 1887 to 1933; he was succeeded by Harald Sommerfeldt. From 1958 to 1971 Erik Ø. Poulsson was at the helm. In 1970 the company announced plans to form the holding company Nordengruppen together with the insurance companies Sigyn and Norske Alliance. The cooperation finally materialized in September 1971. Uranienborg, Norway
Uranienborg is a neighborhood in the borough of Frogner in Oslo, Norway. History Originally a rural area in the former municipality Aker, it was incorporated into the city of Christiania (later Oslo) in 1859. The property used to have a wonderful view, and it was therefore named after the famous observatory Uranienborg at the island of Ven. It received public transport with the Briskeby Line. From 1988 to 2004 it formed the borough ''Uranienborg-Majorstuen'' together with Majorstuen; in 2004 it was incorporated into Frogner borough. It includes Roald Amundsen's Home, also known as "Uranienborg", the home of the polar explorer from 1908, before his successful South Pole expedition, until his death in 1928. Harald Sommerfeldt
Harald Sommerfeldt (20 October 1886 – 1966) was a Norwegian businessperson. He was born in Kristiania as a son of customs treasurer Thorolf Sommerfeldt (1849–1909) and Thrine Karine Sommerfelt (1856–1900). In 1912 he married Sigrid Grøner, a daughter of district stipendiary magistrate J. C. Grøner. He finished his secondary education in 1905, and graduated in engineering from Kristiania Technical School in 1909. He was an engineer at Kværner Brug from 1909 to 1912, then in the insurance company Forsikringsaktieselskapet Norden. He was promoted to assisting director in 1932 and chief executive officer in 1934. He retired in 1958. He also chaired the Association of Norwegian Insurance Companies from 1941 to 1952 and ''Den norske Brandtarifforening'' from 1936 to 1957.
