L. J. Seneviratne
Leopold James de Silva Seneviratne, CCS (25 October 1899 - 19??) was a Sri Lankan civil servant. Who served as the Secretary to the Treasury. Graduated from the University of London with the LLB and qualified as a barrister from the Lincoln's Inn, he became an advocate and started his legal practice on his return to Ceylon. He was appointed a cadet of the Ceylon Civil Service in 1923 by the secretary of state for the Colonies and served in the Kachcheris in Matara, Jaffna and Kegalle. Promoted an officer, he served in as Police Magistrate in Puttalam, Point Pedero and an assistant settlement officer. He then served as Deputy Tea Controller, Secretary to the Ceylonese delegation to India, Assistant Government Agent, Kandy, Deputy Civil Defence Commissioner and Additional Land Commissioner. Ceylon Civil Service
The Ceylon Civil Service, popularly known by its acronym CCS, was the premier civil service of the Government of Ceylon under British colonial rule and in the immediate post-independence period. Established in 1833, it functioned as part of the executive administration of the country to various degrees until Ceylon gained self-rule in 1948. Until it was abolished on 1 May 1963 it functioned as the permanent bureaucracy or secretariat of Crown employees that assisted the Government of Ceylon. Many of the duties of the CCS were taken over by the much larger Ceylon Administrative Service (CAS) which was created absorbing all executive management groups such as the CCS officers and the Divisional Revenue Officers' Service, was to be established with five grades. Francis Molamure
Sir Alexander Francis Molamure, (7 February 1888 – 25 January 1951) (commonly known as Sir Francis Molamure or A. F. Molamure) was a Ceylonese politician. He became the first speaker of both the State Council of Ceylon and Parliament of Ceylon. He was a controversial figure due to his departure from the State Council due to a court conviction and for organising the Panamure Elephant Kraal in 1950. Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia where he played cricket for his school team, captaining the college team at the Royal–Thomian in 1903. President's Counsel (postnominal PC) is an eminent lawyer who is appointed by the President of Sri Lanka to be one of the "President's Counsel learned in the law". The term is also recognized as an honorific which replaced the practice of appointment of Queen's Counsel (QC) which ceased when Sri Lanka became a republic in 1972. It is equivalent to the appointment of King's Counsel in the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms, such as New Zealand, and the equivalent of Senior Counsel in Commonwealth republics, such as South Africa, and derives the same privileges such as the privilege of sitting within the Bar of court. Adeline Molamure
Adeline, Lady Molamure, CBE ( Meedeniya; 1890 – 1977) was the first female member of State Council of Ceylon, and therefore, the first elected female legislator in Sri Lanka. She was the Deputy President of the Senate of Ceylon. Educated at Bishop's College, Colombo, she was the daughter of J.H. Meedeniya Adigar, member of the Legislative Council of Ceylon. She was elected to the State Council by election in 1931 from her father's electoral seat after his death. She was later elected to the Senate in 1947 and was appointed as a Deputy President of the Senate in 1955. Senate Of Ceylon
The Senate was the upper chamber of the parliament of Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) established in 1947 by the Soulbury Commission. The Senate was appointed and indirectly elected rather than directly elected. It was housed in the old Legislative Council building in Colombo Fort and met for the first time on 12 November 1947.
