L'Épine Tunnel
The Épine Tunnel is a motorway tunnel situated in France, in the Savoie department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The tunnel is 3,200 metres long and crosses the Chaîne de l'Épine on the A43 autoroute between Lyon and Chambéry. Location The Épine tunnel crosses the Chaîne de l'Épine mountain in Savoie. Lyon is 125 kilometres eastbound, Chambéry is 15 kilometres westbound. The tunnel is 53 kilometres from Annecy and 71 kilometres from Grenoble. The western entrance is located less than 500 metres from the northern tip of Lac d'Aiguebelette. The eastern entrance is by the town of La Motte-Servolex. History Construction began in 1972. Chambéry
Chambéry (, , ; Arpitan: ''Chambèri'') is the prefecture of the Savoie department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of eastern France. The population of the commune of Chambéry was 58,917 as of 2019, while the population of the Chambéry metropolitan area was 253,430. It has been the historical capital of the Savoy region since the 13th century, when Amadeus V, Count of Savoy, made the city his seat of power. Together with other alpine towns Chambéry engages in the Alpine Town of the Year Association for the implementation of the Alpine Convention to achieve sustainable development in the Alpine Arc. Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

A43 Autoroute
The A43 autoroute, also known as ''l'autoroute alpine'' and ''l'autoroute de la Maurienne'', is a motorway in France. Travelling through the French Alps, the road connects the city of Lyon with the Tunnel du Fréjus, near Modane, which passes the Italian border towards Turin. The autoroute opened in phases as it was constructed between 1973 and 1998. Chaîne De L'Épine
The Chaîne de l'Épine, in the department of Savoie in southeast France, is a long ridge of the Jura Mountains that runs north–south along the east side of the Lac d'Aiguebelette, from the Col de l'Épine west of Chambéry as far as the western edge of the Chartreuse Mountains, near the commune of Les Échelles. To the north, the ridge becomes the Mont du Chat ridge along the western shore of the Lac du Bourget. At the southern end, the ridge terminates at the Guiers River. Etymology There are two explanations for the origin of the name "Chaîne de l'Épine". One traces "l'Épine" as a reference to a thorn from Christ's crown of thorns that Guillaume de Montbel brought back with him on his return from the Seventh Crusade in 1254. Annecy
Annecy ( , ; frp, Èneci or ) is the prefecture and largest city of the Haute-Savoie department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of Southeastern France. It lies on the northern tip of Lake Annecy, south of Geneva, Switzerland. Lac d'Aiguebelette is a natural lake in the commune of Aiguebelette-le-Lac, within the department of Savoie, France. Geography Description With a surface area of 5.45 km2 and a depth of 71 meters it is one of the largest natural lakes of France. It is noted for its blue-green colour and the seven hot water springs.
