L'Ortolan
L'Ortolan is a gourmet restaurant in the village of Shinfield, south of the centre of Reading, Berkshire, England. It is located in the village's old vicarage building, which is a Grade-II listed building The restaurant has one star in the Michelin Guide and 3 AA rosettes. Run by John Burton-Race for 13 years, the restaurant was purchased by Peter Newman in 2000 who appointed Alan Murchison as head chef. Murchison left in 2003 and Daniel Galmiche took over for a year. Alan Murchison returned in 2004, heading up in the company that was given the contract to run the restaurant. Alan left in 2014 and Peter Newman took over the running of the Restaurant. Alan Murchison
Alan Murchison is a former Michelin-starred Scottish chef and restaurateur, living in England. Career Murchison started his kitchen career as a kitchen porter, aged 14. Like most chefs, he worked in a number of restaurants, learning and promoting along the way. He had stints in Claridges, Inverlochy Castle, Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons, L'Ortolan and Nobu. In 1999, he became director of the cookery school of Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons. Murchison returned to L'Ortolan in 2001 this time as head chef. In 2003, the restaurant was awarded a Michelin star. Two years later he left to take up a position as executive head chef at ''Chewton Glen'' hotel in New Milton, Hampshire. He left three months later. After a few minor consultancy jobs, Murchison rejoined L'ortolan in September 2004, this time as director-executive head chef with an option to buy the restaurant. John Burton-Race
John William Burton-Race (born 1 May 1957) is a British Michelin starred chef, television personality and celebrity chef, made famous by the Channel 4 series ''French Leave'' and its sequel ''Return of the Chef'' and '' I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!''. Early life Burton-Race was born in Singapore, raised by his mother and stepfather, who was a United Nations official. Burton-Race's biological father, whom he contacted as an adult, was a geologist. Burton-Race spent his early years travelling, allowing him to experience food from all round the world. He attended St Mary's College, Southampton. Career Between 1983 and 2002, he held positions at various restaurants in the South of England, including Le Manoir aux Quat' Saisons, Oxford; the L'Ortolan restaurant in Berkshire; and in 2000, he took over The Landmark London hotel, winning two Michelin stars.

Shinfield
Shinfield is a village and civil parish in the English county of Berkshire, just south of Reading. It contains and is administered by the unitary authority of Wokingham District.
