D12 (an initialism for The Dirty Dozen) was an American hip hop collective from Detroit, Michigan. Formed in 1996, the group achieved mainstream success with its lineup of ''de facto'' leader Eminem, Proof, Bizarre, Mr. Porter, Kuniva and Swifty McVay. D12 had chart-topping albums in the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia during the early 2000s. The group released the albums ''Devil's Night'' in 2001 and '' D12 World'' in 2004, spawning numerous hits such as "Fight Music", "Purple Pills", " My Band", " How Come" and " Shit on You" throughout that period. Rufus Arthur Johnson (born July 5, 1976), better known by his stage name Bizarre, is an American rapper, best known for his work with the Detroit-based hip hop group D12. Early life Bizarre was born Rufus Arthur Johnson on July 5, 1976 in Detroit, Michigan. Bizarre grew up living with his single mother. He started rapping when he was in fifth grade. His teacher thought he was talking to himself, and began calling him 'Bizarre'. In 1995, he joined the rap group D12 with neighborhood friends DeShaun " Proof" Holton, Karnail "Bugz" Pitts, Carlos "Fuzz Scoota" Rabb, Willie "Eye Kyu" Drake, and Von "Kuniva" Carlisle. "My Band" is a song by American hip hop group D12. It was released in March 2004 as the first single from their second album ''D12 World''. The song is a parody of the false concept that Eminem is the lead singer of the "band" D12. During his career, he was a member of the groups 5 Elementz, Funky Cowboys, Promatic, Goon Sqwad, and D12. He was a close childhood friend of rapper Eminem, who also lived in Detroit. Dewayne Battle (born December 24, 1970), known professionally as Young Zee, is an American underground hip hop emcee. He was a former member of the Outsidaz, alongside Pacewon. Career Outsidaz The Outsidaz, a large hip hop crew that became the first act signed to Ruff Life Records, produced several singles and released a record in the mid-'90s. The group including Young Zee had guest vocals on the Fugees' song "Cowboys" in 1996. Zee made an appearance on Rah Digga's first solo album in 1999. ''D12 World'' is the second and final studio album by Detroit hip hop group D12, released on April 27, 2004. The album sold 544,000 copies in its first week on the U.S. Billboard 200. The album is also the last D12 release to feature Proof before his death in 2006, and the second D12 album to feature Bugz on a track. Background In memory of Bugz, who was killed prior to a concert on May 21, 1999, the group recorded the track "Good Die Young" in memory of him. The album also includes a skit entitled "Bugz '97", which is a 1997 recording of Bugz, originally taken from the song "Desperados". The group was often overshadowed by Eminem's massive success, and as such, the group toured without him for promotion of the album (but the album still reached the top of the US Billboard chart). The Outsidaz were an American hip hop collective from Newark, New Jersey, perhaps best known through their affiliation with fellow New York-area, New Jersey rappers the Fugees and Detroit-area rappers D12. History The group formed in 1991 after underground rappers Young Zee (born Dewayne Battle) met D.U. (born Brian Bostic) and Pacewon (born Jerome Hinds) at a New Year's Eve party. At the time they met, Young Zee and Pacewon were rival MCs. Pacewon & D.U. were members of a crew named PNS, while Zee headed a crew named Pskitzo with members Anthony D. ''Attack of the Weirdos'' is the debut extended play by Detroit rapper and D12 member Bizarre. It was released on September 1, 1998 via Federation Records. Audio production of the seven track album was handled by local Detroit deejays and producers such as DJ Head, who was D12's deejay at the time, Mad Chemist, Hush of Da Ruckus, and the now acclaimed producers J Dilla of Slum Village and Mr. Porter. Being a member of hip hop collectives D12 and Outsidaz, Bizarre had some of his bandmates of both crews to appear on this album. The EP earned Bizarre the Inner City Flava Of The Year award in 1998.
