Violence Begets Violence
Violence Begets Violence is the seventh studio album by underground Philadelphia hip hop duo Jedi Mind Tricks. This is their only album to not feature production from Stoupe the Enemy of Mankind because "his heart wasn't into making JMT records anymore" as well as the fact that both Vinnie Paz and Jus Allah grew tired of waiting. Two singles were released, "Target Practice" and "When Crows Descend Upon You," for which a video has been made. In addition, Shuko remixed the song "Target Practice". Reception This album received mixed and often polarized reviews. XXL Magazine gave the album an L, saying that despite Stoupe's absence on the production, "not even the occasional curve ball (like the reggae-inflected “Chalice”) can harness Paz’s Mephistophelean fervor." HipHopDX noted in a 3/5 review that "the rage filled rants can become monotonous as the album wears on, but some longtime fans will be satisfied with the angst-fueled vocals." Other critics were not so kind. Mat ...

Smash Rockwell
''Smash Rockwell'' is a studio album by American hip hop musician Casual. It was released on Hiero Imperium on September 6, 2005. Critical reception Andy Kellman of AllMusic gave the album 3.5 stars out of 5, writing, "The album is fairly uniform and consistently strong, despite the range of producers involved, and Casual is in improved form lyrically, nearly as sharp as he was throughout 1994's '' Fear Itself''." He added, "All the talk of taking things back to the early '90s can become nearly as grating as relentless gun talk, but Casual is thankfully less irritable than he was on ''He Think He Raw''." Dan Nishimoto of '' Stylus Magazine'' gave the album a grade of C+, stating, "When the grab-bag approach works, it certainly works to his advantage; from pimp strut to battlecat posturing, he gets to bake and taste the cake." Spence D. of ''IGN'' included it on the "Top 26 Albums of 2005" list. Track listing Personnel Credits adapted from liner notes. * Casual – vocals, ...

Casual (rapper)
Jon Owens (born December 19, 1973), known by his stage name Casual, is an American rapper and producer from Oakland, California and one of the founding members of the alternative hip hop collective Hieroglyphics. After his debut album '' Fear Itself'' garnered both critical and commercial success, Casual went on to become one of the most prominent and recognizable faces on the Hieroglyphics roster, releasing five full-length LPs over the span of his twenty-year career. Despite the lackluster sales of the LPs following his debut, which were preceded by an absence of both critical and popular acclaim, Owens has garnered a following amongst devoted hip hop fans, particularly in the Bay Area hip hop scene, largely due to his specialization in hardcore battle rhymes. Biography After high-profile appearances on Del tha Funky Homosapien and Souls of Mischief albums, in 1994 Casual released '' Fear Itself''. The album was the second-highest charting album in Hieroglyphics' history. Cas ...

D12 World
''D12 World'' is the second and final studio album by Detroit hip hop group D12, released on April 27, 2004. The album sold 544,000 copies in its first week on the U.S. Billboard 200. The album is also the last D12 release to feature Proof before his death in 2006, and the second D12 album to feature Bugz on a track. Background In memory of Bugz, who was killed prior to a concert on May 21, 1999, the group recorded the track "Good Die Young" in memory of him. The album also includes a skit entitled "Bugz '97", which is a 1997 recording of Bugz, originally taken from the song "Desperados". The group was often overshadowed by Eminem's massive success, and as such, the group toured without him for promotion of the album (but the album still reached the top of the US Billboard chart). At the time, Eminem was busy recording ''Encore''. Although shadowed by Eminem's success, members Bizarre and Proof managed to prevail with mildly successful solo careers following ''D12 World'', with ...

Interscope Records
Interscope Records is an American record label owned by Universal Music Group through its Interscope Geffen A&M imprint. Founded in late 1990 by Jimmy Iovine and Ted Field as a $20 million joint venture with Atlantic Records of Warner Music Group and Interscope Communications, it differed from most record companies by letting A&R staff control decisions and allowing artists and producers full creative control. Its first hit records arrived in under a year, and it achieved profitability in 1993. Chair and CEO until May 2014, Iovine was succeeded by John Janick. In 1992, Interscope acquired the exclusive rights to market and distribute releases from the hardcore hip hop label Death Row, whose artists included Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, a decision that ultimately put the label at the center of the mid-1990s gangsta rap controversy. As a result, Time Warner, owning Atlantic, severed ties with Interscope by selling its 50 percent stake back to Field and Iovine for $115&n ...
